Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics (MTHC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Melbourne and provides world class clinical training opportunities for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences students. About Melbourne Dental Clinic

The Melbourne Dental Clinic (MDC) supervises the graduate and postgraduate students from the Melbourne Dental School to deliver dental services under the supervision of leading dental practitioners in Melbourne. We also have a private dental practice with fully qualified dental practitioners. The fees associated with these two levels of service are adjusted according to whether or not they are set in the teaching and learning environment. 

What makes our service unique is the availability of a wide range of dental specialties in the one location, including endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and paediatric dentistry, as well as general dentistry.

About the Role

Our Melbourne Dental Clinic is seeking a dedicated CSSD Attendant (Instrument Technician) for a part-time position (0.6 FTE) who can commit to being on-site Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. This role involves providing instrument recirculation of dental instruments, primarily through sterilisation procedures and maintenance of dental instruments and equipment, in accordance with clinical standards and policies, ensuring the provision of high-quality and efficient dental services. 

We offer flexible start and finish times, as well as the possibility of compressed hours, making this role ideal for working parents, students, or older individuals seeking flexibility. Additionally, the procedural nature of the duties and the supportive operational environment make this position especially suitable for individuals who are neurodiverse or living with difference. About you

Essential Selection Criteria 

The Selection Criteria is designed to assess the candidate's suitability for the position. If you don’t believe you meet all the points below, but you have relevant skills and experience, we still encourage you to apply. 

  • Relevant qualification (minimum Certificate III) in Sterilisation Services or equivalent and/or working towards qualification, with work experience in a dental clinic.
  • The ability to work in a highly productive and dynamic environment, maintaining high attention to detail whilst completing required tasks and managing multiple priorities to best meet the needs of patients, key stakeholders, and the business.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to deal with a diverse range of people. 
  • Previous experience working with instrument tracking software for CSSD environment. 
  • The capacity to work autonomously but also work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment. Sound knowledge of Infection Control Procedures and familiar with AS/NZS 4187:2014. 
  • Sound computer skills and ability to use software such as MS Office Suite, internet, and email. 
  • Knowledge of ordering and invoice authorisation principles. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience as a sterilisation nurse, dental assistant and/or front-desk customer service environment.
