Experienced Medical Receptionist

Professor Matthew McDonald, a Neurosurgeon & Spinal surgeon located at Calvary Adelaide Hospital, is seeking a highly experienced medical receptionist to join the Neurosurgery & Spine team. 

Our team consists of neurosurgeons, spinal GP, physios and Workcover Occupational physicians. 

We are seeking for a highly motivated, self-sufficient, and organised candidate to join our team. You will be required to manage reception duties along with competing administrative duties and have the welfare of patients as your priority.

Duties

Be the point of contact for all patients, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals.

Arrange patient appointment including radiology. 

Arrange follow-up appointments and specialist referral appointments.

Receipting patient accounts using HICAPS, Eftpos, DVA and Workcover. 

Arrange recall appointments and scans for patients.

General clinic problem solving and general administrative tasks.

Dealing with patient enquires via phone or email.

Interacting with other doctors and physiotherapists consulting in clinic

Checking patients’ paperwork and helping patient understand upcoming surgical procedures.

Arrange surgical procedures, theatre lists, preoperative scans and anaesthetic requirements as needed.

Provide surgical quotes to patients.

Invoicing patients (DVA, health funds, surgical gaps)

Essential Criteria

Preferably at least 5 years’ experience as a medical receptionist. 

Excellent communication both written and verbal with a strong focus on patient care and customer service.

Act at all times with empathy, understanding and compassion for patients.

Able to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment in which you will need to learn new skills quickly and manage competing priorities.

Be able to work independently and as part of a small team.

Be able to multitask and complete urgent tasks as required.

Have used some type of medical software. The use of Genie (now known as Magentus) would be an advantage. 

Basic understanding of computer systems.

Ability to build rapport and relationships with patients and medical staff.

Exceptional problem solving, organisational skills.

Strong understanding of patient confidentiality is essential.

Working Conditions

Permanent Part time 2-4 days per week with the preferred availability for Tuesday - Thursday and one late finish per week. 

Other flexibility available for discussion with the successful applicant. 

Preferably with the ability to cover sick and annual leave. 

Car parking can be provided

3 month probation period
