Financial Capability Worker 

Employment Type: Part Time 22.8 hours a week with a possibility of 30.4 hours in future 
Location: Gatton, Lockyer Valley 
Classification: SCHADS Award – Level 3

Moneycare is The Salvation Army’s (Salvos) national financial counselling and financial capability program which seeks to alleviate hardship and build long term resilience. The Salvos understands that everyone’s financial situation is different. Our evidence-based methods are professional, caring and have a holistic impact on the lives of those who come to us seeking assistance  

About the Role 

We are seeking a passionate Financial Capability Worker to support individuals and families experiencing financial stress or those looking to prevent financial hardship. 

In this role, you will empower community members to build money management skills, make informed financial choices, and strengthen long-term financial resilience. Through person-centred casework and financial literacy education, you will support improved wellbeing, confidence, and stability. 

You will work in alignment with The Salvation Army’s Mission and Policies, the Moneycare Practice Framework, and relevant funding requirements. 
Please note: this role does not involve providing financial counselling, financial advice, or managing complex financial or legal matters. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide ongoing assessment of community members’ needs from initial contact through to exit 

  • Develop and deliver financial literacy education workshops, supporting long-term capability and future planning 

  • Collaborate with community members to develop individualised, person-centred case plans 

  • Support access to external services and community supports where appropriate 

  • Monitor, review, and adjust case plans to ensure goals and needs continue to be met 

  • Follow Moneycare Outcome Measurement processes and reporting requirements 

  • Work within a holistic, non-judgemental, and empowerment-based framework 

  • Build strong, respectful, and collaborative relationships with community members and stakeholders 

What You Will Bring 

  • Certificate IV in Community Services 

  • Financial Literacy Education Skill Set (or willingness to complete within six months of commencement) 

  • Eligible to be an affiliate member of Financial Counselling Queensland (FCQ) 

  • Experience in a social service setting and/or a strong understanding of financial hardship and exclusion 

  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under competing priorities 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows-based systems 

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills 

  • Ability to engage confidently with diverse individuals and groups 

  • Current Working with Children Check (state-based requirement) 

  • Valid driver’s licence (where travel is )
