About Us

The Byron Community Centre is a not for profit organisation, entirely self-funded through donations, income and project grants. These funds are used to support vulnerable people and offer a range of arts and social programs for the benefit of the whole community.

Fletcher Street Cottage, in the heart of Byron Bay offers a welcoming, safe and respectful space where homeless people can come to enjoy simple, practical relief opportunities, find connections and access broader supports.

Position Summary

As the Fletcher Street Cottage Manager, you will oversee the management of Fletcher Street Cottage’s dedicated and passionate team, homelessness services and projects.  Fletcher Street Cottage is under the governance of  Byron Community Centre. This role is 24-30 hours per week, PPT.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a workplace culture that aligns with the goals and values of the Byron Community Centre 
  • Lead and support a team of staff and volunteers at Fletcher Street Cottage
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including: Council, Collocated service providers, donors, BCC management and staff
  • Undertake responsibility for operations at the Fletcher Street Cottage including planning, coordination, implementation, administration and improvement
  • Implement Work Health & Safety systems including WH&S Risk Assessments, Risk Management and Emergency Plans
  • Participate in the ‘End Rough Sleeping Byron Shire’ project and contribute to collaborative responses to end rough sleeping
  • Project management including implementing new and novel projects, data collection and evaluation
  • Prepare and monitor program budgets in liaison with management.
  • Monitor the performance of staff and volunteers to ensure duties are performed in a safe and professional manner
  • Comply with the established BCC policies

Essential Criteria

  • Possession of relevant qualifications and/or experience in working alongside vulnerable groups with complex needs 
  • Experience in people management
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in effective collaboration with a variety of stakeholders
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with individuals experiencing disadvantage/homelessness (including trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice) 
  • Excellent computer literacy 
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, adapt to change
  • An understanding and ethos of working within a not-for-profit organisation

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in media liaison; documenting and collecting testimonials for media and funding acquittal purposes
  • Experience developing appropriate planning and policy documents; funding submissions, and report-writing
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including evaluation and outcomes measurement

Mandatory Requirements

  • Respect for dignity, privacy, confidentiality, equity and anti-discrimination
  • Act in accordance with the code of conduct, maintain professional boundaries and behave ethically
  • Ability to work in line with WH&S policies and procedures, ensuring the safety of self and others
  • Current National Police Check
  • Current Driver’s License
