.Human Resources Advisor (part time 20-30 hours per week)

Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 + superannuation (pro rata for part time hours)

The Law Council of Australia (Law Council) is the peak national representative body of the Australian legal profession. Since 1933 the Law Council has represented its Constituent Bodies, which include State and Territory law societies and bar associations, to speak on national issues, and promote the administration of justice, access to justice and general improvement of the law.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Human Resources (HR) Advisor is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality, timely and responsive human resource services to all Law Council staff. You will be working closely with the management team and provide advice and support across all areas of HR to enable growth in people capability, support with the development of leadership skills in managers, management of employee issues and drive key behaviours. 

 

The HR Advisor is a true business partner who works to ensure that the HR function is a proactive, value-adding service and meets the needs of its stakeholders across the Law Council. Reporting to the Director, Finance and Corporate Services, and working in collaboration with an external strategic HR partner, you will be involved in the delivery of the following services as required by the business areas:

  • Supporting business areas to attract and select the best people for the right roles to enable positive business outcomes
  • Support in the rollout of the HR policies and procedures, supporting staff and managers to understand and implement the policies in their day-to-day work
  • Supporting and advising people leaders on all areas of performance management including accessible templates, clear processes and provision of timely advice as needed
  • Support with workplace investigations ensuring the business area and individual involved receive the advice and guidance they require
  • Underperformance management advice and support
  • Probation compliance and reporting
  • Workers’ compensation case management and support
  • General HR advice and support to Managers and Employees as required.

 

The HR Advisor requires previous experience in HR areas as a generalist or specialist HR operator. The role requires an individual with high levels of personal integrity, a drive for achieving results and excellent interpersonal skills so they are able to build strong relationships across the organisation. You will demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and the ability to communicate with staff across all levels of the organisation.

 

The HR Advisor requires a person with a high level of initiative, the ability to multi-task and to appropriately prioritise conflicting tasks, and strong personal drive and motivation. You must also be highly ethical and credible to be able to set the expectation of accepted workplace behaviours and be exemplary in your own behaviours. Relevant HR experience and qualifications are highly regarded including knowledge of Fair Work legislation and its application in the workplace.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Please prepare a two-page (max) statement of claims outlining your suitability for the Human Resources Advisor role with the Law Council of Australia, and address the criteria below as part of this statement:

  1. Two – five years’ experience in generalist human resources role;
  2. Solid understanding of Fair Work legislation, and it’s application in the workplace across the entire employee life cycle;
  3. High-level written and oral communication skills;
  4. Strong personal integrity and highly ethical;
  5. Ability to deal with sensitive, difficult issues with empathy and discretion and balance the needs of the individual and organisation;
  6. Able to build strong and trusted relationships at all levels of the organisation;
  7. The ability to work within tight deadlines, independently and with minimal supervision;
  8. Commitment to lead by example and foster a positive, collaborative and team-oriented workplace culture;
  9. Accountable for the delivery of results and a strong work ethic;
  10. Well-developed problem-solving ability and able to make sound, evidence based decisions;
  11. High level organisational skills, and ability to prioritise conflicting priorities in an effective way;
  12. A bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology or related discipline preferred but not essential.
