Job Description - Meat Inspector-Australian Authorised Officer

The Opportunity

We are seeking Meat Inspector – Australian Authorised Officer to join our dedicated Slaughter Floor team at Harvey, WA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to support and uphold company values, ensuring high standard of safety and quality are maintained, and conduct ante-mortem(if needed) and post-mortem inspection tasks as authorised under the Expert Control Act and relevant DAFF Directives.

We are seeking individuals who can excel in the following:

Health and Safety:

  • Maintain and improve plant environment whilst consistently adhering to company and legislative health and safety policies, practices and procedures.

Hygiene & Workplace Standards:

  • Ensure personal compliance with hygiene, PPE, and biosecurity protocols.
  • Participate in internal training, competency assessments, and continues improvement initiatives.

Ante-mortem Inspection:

  • Conduct ante-mortem inspection. Identify and report animal health conditions.
  • Report animal welfare issues in lairage or on slaughter floor.

Post-mortem Inspection:

  • Conduct post-mortem inspection in accordance to work instruction and under the Export Control Act.
  • Make dispositions for any diseases found in head or offal requiring condemnation.
  • Record any condemned heads or offal along with the corresponding disease.

Reporting & Interaction:

  • Communicate inspection findings professionally and promptly to other AAO, the FSMA, and or the OPV.
  • Notify the FSMA and or OPV any notifiable disease.
  • Support regulatory audits and plant verification activities.
  • Report any hygiene non-compliance issues to the slaughter floor supervisor.

ABOUT YOU

To thrive in this role, you will have:

  • Certificate IV in Meat Processing (Meat Safety).
  • Completion of the Australian Authorised Officer (AAO) training program and current competency to perform relevant inspection tasks.
  • Experience in beef processing.
  • Good knife-handling skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
