Job Description - Psychologist - Branch Manager Psychosocial Support

In this newly created specialist role, you'll provide proactive, best-practice psychological and psychosocial support to Branch Managers operating in high-risk branch environments. These branches are characterised by frequent exposure to aggressive, abusive and inappropriate customer behaviour, creating elevated risks of psychological harm, vicarious trauma and burnout. You'll play a critical role in protecting wellbeing, intervening early to mitigate harm, and strengthening organisational capability in psychosocial risk management through both individual support and preventative, system-level initiatives.

This role partners closely with Branch Managers in identified high-risk branches, working alongside Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW), CSN leaders and other key stakeholders. You'll operate with a high degree of autonomy while contributing specialist psychological expertise into broader organisational wellbeing, safety and risk frameworks.
More specifically, you will:
Provide regular, confidential 1:1 psychological support and counselling to Branch Managers in high-risk branches. Applying evidence-based counselling approaches.
Monitor wellbeing and mental health indicators, escalating to appropriate supports where required
Deliver psychoeducation on the impacts of repeated exposure to inappropriate customer behaviour
Design and embed best-practice approaches to managing vicarious trauma within Branch Manager onboarding and induction
Develop and oversee peer-to-peer support mechanisms for Branch Managers
Build Branch Manager capability to support their teams through debriefing, psychological first aid and early intervention
Translate insights into preventative initiatives that reduce exposure to harm and improve psychosocial safety
Provide regular reporting and insights to the Health, Safety and Wellbeing team on trends, wellbeing indicators and psychosocial risks
Maintain professional, ethical and confidentiality standards aligned with AHPRA requirements
Travel domestically on a regular basis as required
We're interested in hearing from people who have:
Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA (mandatory)
Extensive experience providing counselling and 1:1 psychological support in high-risk, high-exposure environments
Strong understanding of vicarious trauma, occupational stress and psychosocial risk management
Experience moving between individual clinical work and strategic, systems-level thinking
Demonstrated capability designing and implementing preventative mental health and wellbeing initiatives
Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills
High levels of professional judgement, discretion and emotional intelligence
Post-graduate qualifications and/or experience in counselling, clinical or organisational psychology (highly regarded)
