About the role

The Quarantine and Cargo Officer reports to the Quarantine Manager. The Quarantine and Cargo Officer will operate the cargo function for all sites and undertake inspections of personnel, equipment and materials transported by air through NJE Terminal to Barrow Island. Duties will be undertaken in accordance with procedures and systems as defined in the Quarantine Management Plan, Cargo Processing Manual, Group Dangerous Goods Manual, and other relevant manuals. This is a part-time opportunity! 

Your duties will include but not limited to:

• Holds Safety as a core value and contributes to the achievement of a Zero Harm and an incident / injury free environment through active participation in all safety programs relevant to their position
• Demonstrates and holds the NJE Core values
• Ensures all cargo, including special freight, is compliant for carriage as per regulations, specifications, and procedures
• Compiles cargo paperwork such as manifests and NOTOCs and ensures adequate records are maintained for each flight
• Ensures that outbound shipments can be properly accommodated on the aircraft involved in the carriage with regard to size, volume and weight and complete heavy item risk assessments where necessary
• Assesses Dangerous Goods cargo using acceptance protocols
• Sorts inbound freight and document collection
• Undertakes ongoing housekeeping, surveillance and monitoring at NJE Terminal including remediation in cargo and quarantine areas
• Undertakes inspections of personnel, personal effects, equipment/materials, and aircraft prior to mobilising to BWI
• Undertakes inspections/verification of cargo destined for Barrow Island
• Ensures pest treatments are correctly applied as per the specifications
• Ensures systems are audit compliant
• Enters pre-border data and complete intervention statistic documentation
• Stock-taking and ordering of materials used at the terminal
• X-raying of mail
• Collects, and dispose of quarantine declaration cards
• Delivers and undertakes training as necessary
• Other duties as required

About you
To be considered for this position with NJE, we require the below:

• Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC) (Essential)
• Hold or be able to obtain a forklift licence (Essential)
• Hold or be able to obtain a Dangerous Goods acceptance certificate (Essential)
• A level of fitness to be able to handle cargo pieces and climb into the hold of an aircraft to inspect (Essential)
• A high level of attention to detail and the ability to work flexible hours as part of an integrated team. (Essential)
• Intermediate typing or computer skills (Essential)
• Previous experience working in a quarantine, logistics and/or airport environment (Desirable)
• A strong customer focus
