What you will be doing:

An exciting opportunity awaits for a Registered Nurse to join the Inpatient Withdrawal Management Unit at Nepean Hospital on a Permanent Part time basis. 

Your role as Registered Nurse will oversee the provision of safe and effective patient-centred nursing care to the patients/clients and carers of Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

This position affords the opportunity to work across a variety of Drug & Alcohol Clinical areas that requires:

  • Responsibility for working within a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and management of patients presenting to the Centre of Addiction Medicine with drug and alcohol related issues
  • Responsibility for working within a multidisciplinary team in the triage assessment and management of patients accessing services offered by Drug & Alcohol Service
  • Contributing to the efficient flow of patients from central Drug & Alcohol Intake to inpatient, outpatient and other settings as appropriate to the patient's individual needs
  • Providing the administration of Methadone, Buprenorphine and Buprenorphine/Naloxone to patients engaged in the NBMLHD Opioid Treatment Program in accordance with Legislation, NSW Health Policy and LHD Procedures
  • To ensure optimal outcomes for patients/clients and carers of the service through the promotion of best practice including the appropriate escalation of care
  • To work collaboratively utilising effective team communication with members of the multidisciplinary health team in the planning, implementation, assessment and evaluation of patient care
  • To act as an advocate for the specific needs of all patients/clients and carers including those from the indigenous population or other multi-cultural groups providing appropriate care to the patient/client undergoing specialised procedures
  • To maintain and promote a professional standard evidenced by ethical nursing practice, adherence to the policies and procedures of the Nursing and Midwifery Service, NBMLHD and the appropriate legislation and statutory regulations
  • To provide support and clinical preceptorship/mentoring to all staff and students
  • To effectively manage resources relevant to the service.
  • Participate in clinical and professional data collection and auditing as required
  • To work predominantly in Centralised Intake and the Inpatient Withdrawal Unit, however at times it may be necessary to work within the Opioid Treatment Clinic if service demand requires this.

A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).

    Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

    Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
