Job Description

We are seeking passionate Haematology/Oncology Registered Nurses for permanent full time and part time opportunities to join a rapidly expanding haematology service in our recently renovated 40-bed acute Haematology & Oncology Inpatient unit in East Melbourne. You will join a comprehensive oncology/haematology department and be part of exceptionally patient focused team who are passionate about providing individualised care. 

You will care for and support patients through diagnosis and treatment of multiple types of cancers (such as breast, renal, pancreatic, colorectal, gastric, lung leukaemia, multiple myeloma lymphoma), and palliative care. You will join a team committed to delivering excellence in patient care, with access to leading haematology/oncology treatments including, stem cell transplantation, BiTE therapy clinical trials and upcoming CAR T delivery in 2024, working in partnership with our Haematologist oncologists in our Clinical Trials Unit – Epworth Freemasons. 

At Freemasons, we are committed to supporting your growth and development, offering pathways in 2025 to expand your skill set and experience, providing training to facilitate your ongoing professional growth. This includes areas like apheresis services, including plasma exchange, photopheresis, stem cell transplant, CAR T and the potential to consider working across both Day Oncology/Apheresis and Haematology /Oncology Units.

You will make an impact by:

  • Delivering high quality nursing care and an exceptional patient experience within the Day Oncology Unit
  • Utilising a reflective, critical thinking and evidence-based approach to the clinical care of patients
  • Offering education and support to patients and their families
  • Role modelling empathy to patients, families, and the medical team  
  • Ensuring patient flow is managed whilst providing high standards of patient care

To be successful in this role…

You are an experienced oncology or haematology nurse who is passionate about patient care and achieving high quality clinical outcomes. A strong communicator, you have a supportive and engaging style that enables you to easily build rapport with patients and their families. You enjoy collaborating with team members to support the development and growth of the service and are invested in your career and are seeking to partake in career development pathways.

You will have:

  • Current nursing registration with AHPRA
  • Previous experience in Haematology and/or Oncology nursing
  • Contemporary knowledge of best practice in cancer nursing care  
  • Post Graduate qualifications in Oncology or be working towards (desirable)
  • Chemotherapy competency or a willingness to complete chemotherapy training and willingness to complete further advanced specialist skills training 
  • Experience with Stem cell transplant skills would be highly valued

The annual salary range for full time Registered Nurses – AUD $71,622 - $100,564 + super + entitlements depending on registration type, year level and position (prorated for part-time).
