We’re seeking a talented Social Media Manager who is passionate about all things social media, visual storytelling and engaging with audiences about fishing and remote travel.

About the role

The primary focus of this role is to maximise the business's online presence and drive sales. 

Reporting to the Content team, the Social Media Manager will be responsible for creating content or re-using existing content and posting across all our social media channels to enhance engagement. Additional tasks include engaging with our private fishing communities, and assisting our performance specialist with setting up paid advertising campaigns. 

  • Take a lead role in social media marketing and content creation, for an iconic recreational adventure business in Tropical NQ.

  • Work in a collaborative, cross-functional role within a team which is ambitious, passionate and talented, and it is particularly important that the successful applicant for this role shares our vision and enthusiasm for the brand.

This is currently a Part-time position of 25 to 32 hours per week with potential to develop into a full time role. This is not a typical 9-5 business and does require flexibility in working hours and occasional monitoring on some weekends and evenings.

Key Responsibilities

1. Content Creation

  • Develop and implement social media strategies across multiple platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, X). Plus manage our private Facebook communities.
  • Assist with developing and implementing a social media strategy to increase brand awareness, promote our products, and service our customers (via posts, messages, replies, and comments)
  • Create engaging content (text, images, videos) tailored to each platform's audience
  • Re-use created content (we have around 10 Tb available for use) by stitching clips together to create content that informs, educates and entertains our prospects and customers
  • Respond promptly to comments, messages, and customer inquiries on all social channels
  • Manage social media calendars and ensure consistent posting schedules via Meet Edgar or FB Creator Studio.
  • Work with our videographer and Ryan to produce new and/or optimised content.
  • Spread brand awareness by visting other brands, forums and influencers and demonstrate informative helpfulness.
  • Evaluate and review performance metrics and suggest new ways to grow brand presence, providing regular reviews and metrics.
  • Interview customers and develop testimonial case studies for the website and other collateral
  • Help assemble the team’s content plan and calendar to meet and exceed goals and objectives

 2. Organise content 

  • Manage photo and video assets on server/Google drive or Meet Edgar, including uploading, organizing, and logging content.
  • Continue to research best practice for content organisation.

3. Apply marketing skills and knowledge 

  • Include products and brand awareness when appropriate.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends, best practices, and platform updates plus monitor social media trends to identify growth opportunities.
  • Monitor and analyse social media metrics, providing regular reports and insights.
  • Assist with set up and execution of paid ad strategies as directed by the paid ads performance specialist.

4. Organisational expectations

  • Compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements and company policy. This includes but is not limited to Non-Disclosure and Commercial Confidentiality agreement.

Experience and Qualifications

We are looking for a social media superhero! High level social media skills plus advanced communication, planning and administration skills. The successful applicant will love the art of storytelling, fishing tips and tricks, fishing humour and enjoy the challenge of social media marketing. 

  1. Essential attributes and skills
  • Independent self-starter who is comfortable in an unsupervised environment with flexible and non-standard working hours.
  • 3+ years in social media management
  • Demonstrated track record of producing engaging, informative content
  • Experience growing a high following social media presence with various touch points.
  • Proficiency in content creation tools (Canva, In Design, Photoshop and Lightroom, Premiere Pro)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects, manage time efficiently, and be resourceful.
  • Ability to moderate channels with self control as the face of the brand and exhibit diplomacy when required.
  • Excellent written communication and a creative flair to engage audience
  • Can do approach and initiative
  • Fast internet access and reliable computer/laptop

2. Desirable 

  • Degree in Communications/Marketing, Digital Media or related field is a plus
  • Interest in AI and innovative tools
  • Ability to set up and monitor paid advertising using FB Creator Studio
  • Enjoy fishing and travel
