Job Description - Support Worker - Start Immediately - Part-Time

We are searching for an analytical Support Worker to join our dynamic team at Anglicare North Queensland Limited in Cairns, Cairns & Far North QLD.

About the Position

As a Support Worker, you will provide direct services to clients, which can include a range of services and activities with clients under limited supervision either individually or as part of a team. This may include crisis intervention, and other supportive interventions. Support workers maintain accurate records of client interactions and service provision, ensuring that information is up-to-date and accessible through Anglicare North Queensland systems. Through this, your role will contribute to case planning and may result in advocacy and/or referrals to specialists or other agencies for specific services, depending on the client's needs. This position is located within out housing and homeslessness department at our QHome service, the position is on a part time basis. 

Key Outcomes
Position responsibilities    

  • Data input and word processing at a basic level, providing routine information, including general telephone duties
  • Apply established practices and procedures
  • Resident contact and interaction including attending to their personal care or undertaking generic domestic duties under direct or routine supervision and either individually or as part of a team as part of the delivery of services
  • Preparation of the full range of domestic duties including cleaning and food service, assistance to residents in carrying out personal care tasks under general supervision either individually or as part of a team as part of the delivery of services.

  • Identifies and reports hazards and incidents and identifies risk controls where appropriate.

Key Relationships    

  • Works collaboratively with Anglicare NQ Executives, Managers, Staff and Volunteers.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with Anglicare NQ partners, other Non-Government Organisations (NGO) and local community businesses.
  • QLD and Commonwealth Government Departments, e.g. Department of Human Services, Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs and other government departments as required.

Special Conditions

  • Hold a current QLD drivers licence ‘Class C’ or interstate equivalent
  • Blue Card (Working with children card)
  • Satisfactory Employment Screening Assessment(s) required for this role in line with Anglicare NQ Policy:
    - National Police Check
  • Valid first aid and CPR certificate
  • Client transportation required and/or client visitation outside of the office required
  • Shift times may vary between morning, afternoon and night shifts

Selection Criteria
Essential

  • Developing knowledge of workplace functions and operations, work practices and policies
  • Basic knowledge of practices and procedures for the workplace
  • Basic numeracy, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Work with direct supervision

Highly Regarded

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities. 
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
  • Awareness and/or experience working with people experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Awareness and/or experience working with people experiencing alcohol and other drugs challenges.
