POSITION PURPOSE:

The Swim School Captain will oversee all swimming lessons within the Caulfield aquatics program, located at both the Caulfield campus and the Wheelers Hill campus. They are ultimately responsible for the experience of all swim school students and parents/guardians and have the authority to make the necessary decisions to ensure the highest levels of safety and customer experience are maintained at all times.

The Swim School Captain will be proactive in providing visible leadership and direction to all swim teachers, ensuring that their extensive knowledge is utilised to ensure pool programming is operating efficiently and with the highest possible level of service. They will work relentlessly to engage with all parents/guardians regularly and maximise sales and retention opportunities.

This position will work relentlessly to implement the Aligned Leisure purpose of connecting to thrive and win, values of AWARE, DISCIPLINED, RELENTLESS and UNITED, and associated behaviours throughout the entire team.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Daily operation of the swim school program
    • Provide visible leadership to all Swim School Teachers by being present on pool deck.
    • Ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and presentation at all times, especially in spectator areas and storerooms.
    • Proactively work with Swim School Teachers to minimise any disruptions that may cause classes to be interrupted.
    • Ensure Swim School Teachers on duty are following OH&S guidelines particularly in relation to Learn to Swim equipment on pool deck.
    • Maintain the integrity of the swim school database and lesson bookings at all times to maximise class occupancy rates.
    • Ensure that the facility is set up for programs, liaising with other staff as required.
    • Ensure all lessons start and end on time.
    • Liaise with the Duty Captain on all maintenance matters.
    • Ensure all reports, checklists and procedures are completed and signed off by the Head of Aquatic Facilities or Duty Captain.

 

  1. Student acquisition and retention
    • Take a proactive approach to customer engagement, recognising, welcoming and educating new participants.
    • Maximise new student acquisition.
    • Ensure parents/guardians and students receive regular feedback and students are regularly assessed against the level criteria.
    • Manage student progression and class changes.
    • Authority to solve customer issues on the spot, without the need to seek approval from a member of the management team.
    • Ensure all complaints are followed up in a timely manner.
    • Actively seek customer feedback on service levels.

 

  1. High calibre of swim teaching
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all students and their parents/guardians.
    • Create a fun, welcoming and safe environment.
    • Deliver high quality swimming lessons using the Swim and Survive program.
    • Implement set lesson plans.
    • Work on set level criteria each week, recording student’s growth and reporting students ready for assessment.

 

  1. Outstanding service delivery to all customers and stakeholders
  • Aligned Leisure will be renowned for delivering outstanding service and providing memorable experiences for our customers. This role will be relentless in identifying these opportunities and will always ask “How would I want a member of my family treated in this situation?”
  • All Aligned Leisure staff will understand and deliver on our customer charter and service promise.
  • Provide customer experience and administrative support to other areas of Caulfield aquatic operations, including  but not limited to, facility hirers and squad members.

The Swim School Captain must be available to work a mixture of early morning, daytime, evening and weekend shifts. They may from time to time be required to undertake other tasks as directed by the Leisure Manager or Head of Aquatic Facilities.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:     

  1. Relevant industry experience
  2. Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Qualification
  3. Lifeguard Qualification (Desirable)
  4. The position will be subject to relevant pre-employment checks such as a Police Check and must maintain a current working with children check
  5. The successful applicant must hold or be willing to attain First Aid and CPR qualifications
