Brief Description:

Reporting to the Hematology TA Medical Lead, the Hematology Medical Advisor is responsible for supporting the development and execution of the country/regional Medical Affairs strategy of our existing hematology medicines focused on AML and ALL, and for any other in development or future medicines in the Hematology Therapeutic Area (TA) if required.

Hematology Medicines are major strategic drivers for the business with significant opportunities in the portfolio, making this role critical to the future success of the organization. As a key member of the hematology local team, the role will demand high levels of proactivity and cross functional collaboration. 

The incumbent has responsibility for ensuring all activities are executed in accordance with regulatory and legal frameworks of the country including but not limited to, Farmaindustria, EFPIA, GCP and IFPMA regulations as well as Jazz Pharmaceuticals Policies and Healthcare compliance procedures.

Essential Functions

1. Support the Local Medical Affairs Strategy

  • Work closely with the Hematology Medical Lead/Country Medical Director to support the development and execution of the local medical affairs strategy, following adaptation of the EUR/INT plans.
  • The incumbent will develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of AML and ALL and future hematolgical areas of development, as well as of the related scientific literature in order to position him/herself as an expert in the field.
  • Review and critically appraise scientific literature to identify key drivers that differentiate Jazz's hematological medicines and provide support and advice to medical and marketing groups in developing strategy and tactical implementation plans.
  • Ensure the KEE engagement and educational related activities are of a high scientific quality and highly coordinated.
  • Provide medical and scientific input in the brand team on appropriate medical messages and product positioning.
  • Contribute to the development of and maintain awareness of the competitive landscape and communicate competitive intelligence to the medical and marketing team as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance regarding appropriate speakers for national/international congresses and workshops to expand and enhance scientific exchange.
  • Provide expert medical information for promotional, educational, and other scientific materials in collaboration with marketing and other appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Provide scientific education and in-house training for MSLs and Key Account Managers and other appropriate staff as required.

2. External Relationships

  • Support development of Jazz positioning as the scientific authority within the Hematology TA and acts as a bridge between the company and the medical community.
  • Provide accurate and up-to-date medical and scientific advice on the company’s products, answer questions, clarify doubts, and educate healthcare professionals about the benefits, risks, and correct usage of medications.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with appropriate stakeholders (KEE’s, pharmacists, local authorities, collaborative groups and scientific societies etc) to ensure that the hematological portfolio is appropriately positioned in treatment guidelines and protocols through the provision of balanced, scientific information.
  • Support development of local advocacy plans through provision of scientific and clinical information and expert engagement plans
  • Attend appropriate local, regional and national scientific congresses to stay abreast of developments as well as the international scientific meetings if required.

3. Data Generation and Publication Planning

  • Lead the development and execution of local evidence generation (study plans to provide post marketing data to support the portfolio of Jazz Neuroscience products in phase IV, observational and pharmaco-economic studies) to provide data to support the hematology portfolio strategy according to the local unmet needs and requirements.
  • Support development of publication plans covering the local data generation needs.
  • Facilitate and support investigators, who wish to conduct investigator sponsored or Jazz sponsored studies in line with Jazz strategy
  • Support the approval and implementation of these projects in line with relevant pharmaceutical regulations and Jazz SOPs as appropriate.
  • Support the Company Clinical Development Program at the affiliate level as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience in a comparable role: ideally with Deep Knowledge of the HematologyTA focused on AML and VOD.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills, to design and implement medical projects with high added value for Jazz and healthcare professionals
  • Experience launching new products, market shaping and launch readiness activities.
  • Clinical research methodology knowledge to support local and global clinical development plans.
  • Ability to critically analyse complex data.
  • Ability to produce timely business management reports, budget tracking and audit data.
  • Strong inter-personal leadership, relationship building skills/collaboration and teamwork.
  • Experience in establishing strong influential relationships with academic, research, and scientific societies,
  • Experience in effectively implementing local code of practice.
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong presentation skills
  • Flexible, independent, and proactive working style.
  • Fluent knowledge of English (spoken and written)

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • Strong preference for a Medical Doctor/pharmaceutical physician with a higher scientific qualification e.g. MSc, PhD etc. and hematology experience
  • Experience of working in a Spain & Portugal medical affairs role
  • Good understanding of the Spanish healthcare systems
