Job title: Biobanking Specialist (f/m/d)
Job location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI-ERIC in Graz, Austria
Job purpose: With your experience and drive as Biobanking Specialist you will be a core member of the Biobanking Development (BBD) department, working with Biobanks and National Nodes in our Member States and other key stakeholders of one of the largest European Research Infrastructures in Health and Life Science.
Contract: We offer a 3-year contract, full time (40 hours/week) with the possibility of extension/permanent contract.
Who we are:
BBMRI-ERIC is the European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources. As one of the largest European Research Infrastructures in Life Science with 24 Member States plus IARC/WHO, we bring together all the main players from the biobanking and biomolecular resources field – researchers, biobankers, industry, and patients – to boost biomedical and Life Science research. To that end, we offer quality management services, support with ethical, legal and societal issues, a number of online tools and software solutions and biobanking development. Ultimately, our goal is to enable personalised medicine to the fullest. This is part of the “One Health” paradigm which is the overarching theme of BBMRI-ERIC’s 10-Year Roadmap 2025-2035.

What makes the job special?
As Biobanking Specialist, you are passionate about the multidisciplinary world of Biobanking with an enthusiasm for active participation within the BBMRI-ERIC community. You are confident with carrying out tasks that involve scientific writing and performing activities within deadlines.
You ideally possess a background in European projects, preferably with Life Sciences research experience, so that handling the scientific tasks within EU projects will come naturally.
Key Responsibilities:
· Support the daily operations of the BBD department, facilitating negotiations between scientists and biobanks
· Monitor and support the BBMRI access pipeline tools
· Enhance departmental functions with your excellent IT skills
· Draft scientific content as required
· Communicate diplomatically within an international and intercultural context
· Participate in EU projects, including proposal preparation and task execution.
In this role your required qualifications and skills are:
· Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant field, such as biomedical sciences or life sciences
· A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in scientific research related to biobanking, biomedical sciences, or life sciences, including biobanking management
· Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
· Team-oriented mindset with the capability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure.
· Demonstrated experience in successful participation in international or EU projects, along with basic project management skills, is advantageous
· Familiarity with the EU landscape of Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) is a plus
· Excellent IT skills (advanced knowledge of Excel e.g. VLookup, Pivot Table, …)
· Professional fluency in English, as English is the official working language of BBMRI-ERIC
· Readiness for moderate travel
Employment terms and conditions
As we aim to provide a diverse work environment, the work can be performed at the headquarters in Graz with occasional home office options.
The employment follows the Austrian employment law.
What we offer
€ 60,000.00 as minimum annual gross salary, based on 40 hours/week, (European/international standards for similar roles and responsibilities and requirements considered); final salary dependent on terms of qualifications and experience.
