Job Description - Senior Data Protection Advisor

Division: Regulatory, Compliance and Public Affairs

Role

Data protection is a critical area within the Euroclear group. As member of the Data & privacy, Data Protection Office you are expected to support the advice and coordination around GDPR implementation, and other data (protection) matters.

The team consists of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with mature compliance and regulatory experience and expertise.

The primary team responsibility is to advise Senior Management and the different Euroclear lines of business on the concrete application of the laws, regulations, standards and codes which fall within their assignment.

The advisory services are wide ranging and include the development of frameworks, regulatory expertise, support to the business, drafting and delivering policies and training, and the development of relevant control activities. We are looking for someone with a strong appetite for  data , AI and is eager to stay updated with the latest advancements in technology.

In this context, you will be providing these services to Euroclear S.A. (our parent company) and the (I)CSDs of the Euroclear Group. You will report directly to the Data Protection Officer while interacting with a multitude of partners!

Position summary

Divisional Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Business Support (First Line): The Advisory teams are expected to support daily business activity. This includes but is not limited to the following:
  1. Transversal cooperation: working closely and collaboratively with peers of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) department to integrate security into data protection assessments of IT projects, peers of the Data Management Office (DMO) department to connect data retention and deletion of personal data and to integrate the new Data Acts in data protection areas and also with peers of the supply chain to integrate commitment with suppliers in our data protection assessment.
  2. Monitoring the relevant regulatory developments. With support of the Legal department advising on (and sometimes coordinating) the implementation of upcoming applicable legislation, regulation or guidance (or aspects thereof) before, during and after the launch date and as appropriate from that point onwards.
  3. Promoting and enhancing the right 'compliance culture' and general compliance awareness within area of expertise and coverage, representing the function in all relevant committees and fora.
  • Compliance and Ethics Support (Second Line): Assisting all of the other Compliance teams in succeeding in their missions by providing timely and appropriate input.
  • Team members: Assist in the development of expertise of the C&E Advisors.

Technical skills

  • You are able to deliver high quality support consistent across jurisdictions at times, in an autonomous, timely, pragmatic, cost efficient and effective fashion, and to build a solid understanding of the business of the Euroclear Group
  • You have acquired a Master of Laws degree with excellent academic results.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in data protection, either in a reputable and internationally oriented law firm or through equivalent in-house counsel experience.
  • You demonstrate experience in interpreting, advising on or monitoring compliance with data protection legislation. Other knowledge areas such as data retention, data security, artificial intelligence and New Data Acts are a surplus
  • Ideally you have experience in the financial services sector and knowledge of key financial regulations and market practices
  • You are fluent in English
