Our Global Public Affairs experts advise companies and investors on the impact of political, policy, and regulatory developments on their businesses and strategic positioning. This includes advocacy support, political due diligence, media engagement, and advice on the optimal organization of firms' governmental relations and policy functions. Our Brussels office serves as the EU hub of FGS Global.

We are looking for an Associate Director to join our Global Public Affairs Energy team in Brussels. You will work at the nexus of EU energy policy and business, contributing to a range of mandates including advocacy, reputation-building, and stakeholder engagement.

Your Responsibilities 

• Policy monitoring and analysis: Track and interpret EU energy policy and regulatory developments, translating complex legislative changes into clear, actionable insights for clients. Insights should go beyond surface-level monitoring: we expect analysis that is connecting regulatory developments to the specific business context of each client and presented in a way that is immediately understandable and useful even to a non-specialist audience.


• Client delivery: Support the delivery of client mandates across the energy sector, contributing to day-to-day account management and ensuring high-quality output across written and oral workstreams.


• Stakeholder engagement: Assist in mapping and engaging relevant policy, political, and regulatory stakeholders across EU institutions, member states, trade associations, and think tanks.


• Project coordination: Own specific workstreams within larger client mandates, coordinating across internal teams and managing timelines to ensure delivery meets the highest standards.


• New business support: Contribute to pitch preparation and new business development activities, including research, drafting, and participation in pitch meetings alongside senior colleagues.


• Junior team support: Provide guidance and feedback to the junior team, contributing to a culture of high performance within the team.

What You Should Bring

The ideal candidate has a solid grounding in EU energy policy and direct experience working in a consultancy environment. You understand how policy and regulatory change affects businesses operating in the energy sector — and you know how to communicate that clearly to clients whose priorities and pressures differ from those of institutions.

• Bachelor's degree; a Master's in public policy, international relations, energy, law, or a related field is an advantage.


• 3–5 years of experience in a public affairs agency, management consultancy, or strategic advisory firm. Candidates with experience in an EU institution, trade association, energy company, or regulator who have since moved into consultancy are also welcome to apply.


• Direct experience working on energy policy — either in an advisory capacity or from within an energy company, trade body, or regulator.


• Excellent writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex policy and regulatory developments into concise, client-ready analysis. We are looking for someone who can connect policy change to the specific business context of each client — not generic summaries of institutional output.


• Very good working knowledge of the EU energy policy landscape, including key legislative files and the institutions that shape them.


• Ability to engage confidently with clients and external stakeholders, with support from senior colleagues where needed.


• Strong organizational skills and a track record of delivering to deadlines across multiple workstreams.


• Proactive, collaborative approach with an interest in developing your own expertise and client relationships over time.


• Fluency in English; additional European languages are an asset.
