Job Description - Business Unit Director (Sales)

About the Job

As we expand our footprint in Belgium (and the Netherlands), we’re looking for a strategic and entrepreneurial Business Unit Director to build and scale our resourcing business from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our BeNe operations, lead a high-impact team, and contribute to Excelya’s ambitious 2030 vision.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and execute a strategic prospection plan to grow our client base across Belgium (and in the Netherlands as opportunities arise).
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of consultants.
  • Recruit and structure the Belgian sales team, to support business development and client engagement.
  • Drive business development through client meetings, needs qualification, and solution proposals.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to recruit top-tier consultants and ensure optimal staffing.
  • Monitor and optimize gross profitability, negotiating daily rates aligned with business goals.
  • Foster a strong team culture through regular follow-ups, team-building activities, and informal moments.
  • Act as a key link between the Belgian BU and Excelya HQ, embodying and promoting our core values.

About You

Experience

  • A strong background in resourcing and business development, ideally within the life sciences, clinical research, or consulting sectors.
  • Proven ability to build and lead sales teams, with a track record of driving growth and developing client portfolios.
  • Experience managing clinical research consultants or similar profiles in an outsourced model.
  • Familiarity with the Belgian market and ideally an existing network within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Comfort working in autonomous, start-up-like environments, where you take ownership and drive initiatives from scratch.

Skills

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to design and execute prospection and growth plans.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and self-starter attitude, able to operate independently while building a team and structure.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, coach, and collaborate across functions.
  • Organizational agility and adaptability to navigate evolving priorities and a growing business.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a drive to continuously learn, improve, and innovate.

Education: Ideally a Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, or equivalent by experience

Languages: Fluency in Dutch, French, and English is required.
