CropLife International is seeking anaccomplished Director of Communicationwho has a minimum of 10 years ofexperience, ideally in a leadership rolewithin a company or association. TheDirector of Communication will be workingin a motivated team of advocacy andcommunications professionals, contributingto global outreach campaigns. They arealso responsible for message development,media relations, internal and externalcommunications with members andexternal stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be working in an excitinginternational environment, with member associationsin all continents. They will need to have a strong trackrecord in transforming scientific and policy informationinto powerful messages that have impact with a wideThis professional will have a wealth of experiencein getting the right information to right audiences atthe right time, using the most relevant channels forcommunicating with these difference audiences.

This is an interesting role which enables the successfulcandidate to work with press and internationalorganizations, as well as associations in all continentsand a diverse group of great colleagues. TheCommunication Director will support effectiveadvocacy campaigns and therefore works very closelywith CropLife International’s advocacy team.

The Director of Communication sets and guides the strategy for all communication activities, including issue management, media relations and proactive positioning of CropLife International (CLI).

Areas of Responsibility

– They ensure that CropLife International is viewed as a trusted source of information and disseminator of information to theorganization’s international network and external stakeholders.

– They work closely with the President and CEO aswell as with the senior leadership team within CLI asa partner on a variety of strategic communicationin support of policy and advocacy initiatives.

– The Director of Communication leads the generation of onlinecontent that has the power to engage different audiencesegments, and which leads to measurable action.

– They leverage a wide variety of platforms tocreate and build awareness of CLI’s messagesand ensure these messages have impact.

– They organize outreach events, such as sideevents at meetings of international organizations e.g. during intergovernmental meetings etc.

– The Director of Communication is responsiblefor analyzing and testing the effectiveness ofall CLI’s communications activities.

– They manage the development, distribution, and maintenanceof the association’s newsletters, brochures, social media, andthe public website. This includes tracking and measuringthe level of engagement within the network over time.

– The Director of Communication manages all media relationsand will need to be ready to act as a spokesperson asand when agreed/directed by the CEO and President.

Strategic Communications

– Lead internal and external communicationsof CropLife International’s strategy,positioning the industry as a thought leader.

– Lead communication strategies andpolicy position development for CropLifeInternational and the global associationnetwork on issues related to innovation,sustainable agriculture, climate change,chemical management, and food security.

– Develop an annual, integrated strategiccommunications plan that promotesconsistent messaging and enhancesCropLife International’s reputation andbrand, and mitigates reputational risk.

Campaigns

– Deliver communication andoutreach campaigns in partnershipwith the global CropLife network

– Identify emerging issues faced by CropLifeInternational, translate these into internaland external communications opportunities.

– Develop social and digital mediaplatforms on Twitter and LinkedIn.

Internal and external communication

– Provide communications counsel andsupport to the President and CEO and theCropLife International leadership team.

– Ensure all communications toemployees, stakeholders and otheraudiences reflect and support CropLifeInternational’s mission, vision, values,and operating plan priorities.

– Initiate and oversee production ofmonthly newsletters (internal andexternal), articles, news releases,issue alerts, brochures, and other

– Analyze and report CropLifeInternational results and achievementsto member company CEOs, network,and external stakeholders.

– Manage member-driven committees,including the Communications SteeringCommittee, to develop and deliverannual operating plans and long-termstrategies with direct budget oversight.

People and Budget Management

Communication Manager/ Senior Manager& agency oversight

Required Competences

The successful candidate will have:

– 10+ year of experience working in a seniorcommunication function, preferably withglobal advocacy communications and

– Expert in developing and implementingcommunications strategies.

– Outstanding writing/editing and verbalcommunication skills in English.

– A strong track record as an ‘implementer’,who thrives on managing a varietyof initiatives simultaneously.

– Professional Communication leaderwho is passionate, energetic, andmature, who acts as a unifying force.

– Relationship builder.

– Diplomat with an ability to positionstrategic and tactical levels.

– Committed professional whounderstands how to work collaborativelywith all stakeholders, includingCLI’s team, committee membersand external stakeholders.

– Self-starter with an ability towork independently.

– Entrepreneurial spirit who enjoys creatingand implementing new initiatives.

– Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
