Graphic Designer with Instructional Design Expertise

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Graphic Designer with a passion for visual storytelling and

an aptitude for instructional design to provide services to our team. In this role, you will be primarily

responsible for developing impactful internal communication materials and web pages, while

occasionally creating educational and training materials that contribute to effective online learning

experiences for the European Commission’s staff. You will design, develop and implement internal

communication materials (newsletters, leaflets, posters, brochures, SharePoint Online webpages,

etc.), as well as instructional materials including e-learning modules and training material, and other

educational resources.

Key functions:

1. Graphic Design

o Create clear and visually appealing layouts and internal communication materials, including

newsletters, leaflets, posters, brochures, short videos, animations, photos, SharePoint

webpages, etc., for both print or web publication.

o Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure all designs effectively communicate key

messages and adhere to internal standards, visual identity and guidelines.

o Manage design projects from concept to completion, liaising with print and production teams

to ensure timely delivery and high quality standards for all materials.

o Bring creative and innovative ideas by staying informed on design and web trends.

2. Instructional Design Support

o Assist in analysing learning objectives, target audiences, and performance gaps.

o Create storyboards, engaging and effective instructional materials for e-learning modules and

course materials, including text, images, graphics, audios, quizzes, and videos, to provide highquality, engaging, and interactive learning content.

o Enhance educational content using design principles.

o Work with subject matter experts to convert complex information into accessible and visually

engaging learning solutions for the staff.

3. Support for web management of SharePoint intranet pages on security

o Assist in maintaining the visual and content aspects of SharePoint pages, including updating

banners, photos, infographics and general page content.

o Support the development, restructuring and improvement of SharePoint pages to make

security information more accessible and user-friendly for Commission staff.

o Support back-office management and document organisation to ensure effective knowledge

management, and easy access and retrieval of information.

4. Collaboration and Communication

o Collaborate closely with the Sector’s staff and stakeholders to translate communication and

training needs into appealing and instructional materials,

o Deliver precise work through careful planning, minimising the need for revisions and ensuring

deadlines are met.

o Present design concepts and ideas, incorporating feedback to enhance materials.

o Ensure compliance of all production with accessibility standards and internal policies.

5. Evaluation and Improvement

o Analyse communication and learning outcomes, identify areas for improvement and

implement changes to enhance communication and learning experiences.

o Stay updated on design trends, best practices and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

o Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.

o Proven experience as a Graphic Designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of

internal communication and web design projects.

o Proficiency in design software including Adobe Creative Suite.

o Familiarity with web platforms, particularly SharePoint Online (SPO).

o Good understanding of, or experience with, instructional design and e-learning tools.

o Experience with authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate.

o Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

o Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
