Legal Counsel (Belgium)

BioFirst is a global player in biological pest and disease control and bumblebee pollination. It offers a full range of IPM (Integrated Pest Monitoring) solutions, including beneficial insects, predatory mites, bumblebees, insect pathogenic nematodes, biopesticides, biostimulants, biofertilisers and inoculants as well as high-tech monitoring and scouting. BioFirst has 32 production and/or distribution subsidiaries and employs 2800 employees worldwide. In addition, BioFirst has an extensive network of specialised distributors in an additional 50 countries and exports weekly to over 70 countries. BioFirst serves the horticultural market and the open field agricultural market, through four major brands: Biobest, BioWorks, Plant Products and Biotrop.

Growth was achieved through both organic expansion and acquisitions, with a budgeted 2024 turnover of over €500 million. BioFirst is backed by, among others, two Belgian holding companies and several private equity funds.

To strengthen the - for now small - headquarter Legal team, we are looking for an all-round Legal Counsel who will manage a wide range of legal topics for different departments and subsidiaries from BioFirst’s headquarters in Westerlo.

Your responsibilities

• You will provide operational support to various BioFirst departments. You will answer legal questions, make analyses, formulate opinions and draft contracts and policies.
• You assist colleagues with legal matters regarding new product developments.
• You provide support in M&A (Due Diligence, LOI, SPA, APA, SHA).
• You draft and review a wide range of commercial agreements.
• You manage the corporate housekeeping for various entities of the group.
• You manage the group's trademarks.
• You set up training programs as well as data management systems.
• You report to the Legal Affairs Manager.

Your profile

• You obtained a master’s in law.
• You have between 3 and 10 years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel within an international environment. Experience with commercial contracts is a plus.
• You act with integrity and discretion when managing confidential information.
• You can present complex legal matters clearly and concisely.
• As Legal Counsel, you communicate in excellent business and legal English and Dutch, both orally and in writing. Other languages are an asset.
• You are willing to travel sporadically.
