About the Role

We are seeking a Medior AWS DevOps Engineer to join our client’s Platform Engineering team on a freelance basis for an 11-month project in Brussels, Belgium. You will play a pivotal role in managing and evolving the AWS workloads that power the digital backbone of Flanders. As a Medior AWS DevOps Engineer, you will help build and operate a central AWS platform that supports critical public sector applications. Your work will directly impact the efficiency, security, and scalability of digital services used by millions, ensuring Flanders remains at the forefront of information-driven government.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Managing and operating AWS workloads within a central hub-spoke architecture.


• Developing and enhancing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for platform components.


• Automating CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub and Azure DevOps Pipelines.


• Building, maintaining, and optimizing central hosting platforms for application services.


• Collaborating with project teams to onboard new spokes and connect them to the central hub.


• Ensuring robust network architecture, DNS, logging, monitoring, and deploy-API integrations.


• Supporting the onboarding and operationalization of high-impact digital projects.


• Contributing to a dynamic, Agile, and DevOps-driven team culture.

Technical Skills

• Demonstrable experience automating CI/CD processes (e.g., GitHub, Azure DevOps Pipelines) – Medior level


• Strong proficiency in Python – Medior level


• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Medior level


• Experience setting up and maintaining central hosting platforms within a hub-spoke architecture, including description of essential central components and years of experience


• Experience managing container orchestration systems (e.g., ECS Fargate, Kubernetes, Docker) – Junior level


• Solid knowledge of AWS services and architecture


• Experience with Azure DevOps


• Database administration knowledge: PostgreSQL, MSSQL, or MongoDB

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is mandatory

Other Requirements

• Higher education (Master or Bachelor) in a technical/engineering field, or equivalent experience with relevant ICT technology


• Signed NDA document to be uploaded


• Demonstrable experience within the Flemish government is highly valued


• Proven experience working in Agile and DevOps environments
