Job Description - Project Communications Manager

MAIN DUTIES

The UITP Project Communications Manager leads the communications activities on the association’s third party funded projects. They develop and execute communications strategies in line with project needs to ensure its visibility to UITP members and beyond. At the same time, they exploit project activities to strengthen UITP’s external communications.

In some projects they will lead the communications work package, coordinate EU deliverables and chair project meetings. In others they contribute to communications activities, ensuring visibility for UITP within the project.

This involves developing deliverables like physical assets (roll-up banners, posters, brochures) as well as reports, articles, websites, social media posts and newsletters in line with the project objectives, scope and budget. They will also support the dissemination activities around (project) events and the communication of its outcomes.

They will work within UITP’s Communications and Marketing Department, working closely with the project communications consultant. For their day to day work, they will coordinate closely with their colleagues in UITP’s Knowledge and Innovation Department.

Some travel is required in this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead UITP projects communications, ranging from strategy development and project management to content creation and promotion;
  • Match dissemination activities of projects with UITP communication plans; ensure projects communication planning fits with the rest of UITP activities and overall editorial strategy;
  • Define the strategy to ensure that project communication activities, knowledge and output contribute to added value to benefit UITP members;
  • Manage and maintain the websites of third-party funded projects.
  • Manage the communications budget for third party funded projects.
  • Ensure optimal dissemination of knowledge and possibly complex/technical output through engaging content and campaigns (articles, videos, press, social media, etc.) on project channels and the various UITP channels;
  • Conduct project management activities related to communications, including attending of events, coordinating of and presenting at meetings, reporting of statistics, contribute to proposal writing;
  • Represent UITP in external bodies on communications, e.g. conferences committees, EU initiatives, and others.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in communications.
  • Previous experience in EU funded projects communications and dissemination.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to interact with international stakeholders (either third parties or UITP members)
  • Good project management skills
  • Experience in copywriting or journalism; is able to translate sometimes technical language into engaging copy or visuals.
  • Good knowledge of and real interest in social media and digital tools;
  • Knowledge of design software (Adobe Suite, Canva, or other).
  • Capable of delivering quality work for several projects while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Stress-resistant and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proactive and creative attitude.
  • A degree in communications, journalism or related fields
  • Perfect English (fluent or near-fluent)
