Lhoist Business Innovation Centre (BIC) is hiring 5 interns. If you are interested in working with a team of experts for 4-6 months there is your chance!

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIPS

  • Familiar with basic materials analytical techniques & disposition to work in a laboratory is a plus.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Access (or similar). 

 

Your main responsibilities:  

 

  • Performing literature review.  
  • Design and execute lab experiments 
  • Analyze data and interpret findings and results 
  • Attend regular team meetings and collaborate on follow-up of the projects. 
  • Prepare reporting and present to the team (orally and written). 

 

 

INTERNSHIPS: 

 

1) R&D Engineer Intern (Calcination) 

 

As an R&D Engineer Intern (Calcination), you will join the team exploring how shaping technologies can help boosting the valorization of fine lime particles, as demand shifts toward coarser lime in low-carbon industrial processes. Your mission will be to investigate innovative solutions to improve lime shaping and agglomeration. Through hands-on experimentation, literature review and analysis of the data, this project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable innovation in a critical industrial material. 

 

Education: Students in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Metallurgy or Material Science. 

Languages: Fluency in English is a must. French is a plus. 

Duration: 5-6 months. Preferably starting anytime between February - April 2026. 

 

2) R&D Engineer Intern (Hydration) 

 

As an R&D Engineer Intern (Hydration), you will be part of the hydration lab team, and your mission will be to study the impact of the mother quicklime properties on the quality of the hydrated lime. Your primary responsibilities will include consolidating existing data on this topic, conducting laboratory and pilot-scale tests using various quicklime sources under different operating conditions, performing comprehensive characterizations of the resulting hydrated limes, and compiling all findings into a detailed report and an oral presentation in English. 

 

Education: Students in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials & Sciences. 

Languages: Fluency in English is a must. French is a plus. 

Duration: 5-6 months. Preferably starting anytime between February - April 2026. 

 

3) R&D Engineer Intern (Glass) 

 

As an R&D Engineer Intern (Glass), you will be part of the glass team exploring innovative ways to improve the workability and melting behavior of glass batches using Ca/Mg-based raw materials. Through hands-on experimentation and data analysis, you’ll contribute to solving key challenges in next-generation glass production. This project focuses on developing sustainable shaping and agglomeration strategies that support the decarbonization of the European glass industry, offering you a unique opportunity to make a real impact in a challenging and evolving field. 

 

Education: Students in Chemical engineering, Material Science, Chemistry. 

Languages: Fluency in English is a must. French is a plus. 

Duration: 5-6 months. Preferably starting anytime between February - April 2026. 

 

4) R&D Engineer Intern (Civil Engineering)  

 

As an R&D Engineer Intern in Civil Engineering, your mission will be to contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms governing the CO₂ capture in lime-treated soils. Your mission will be to study the competition between the reaction of lime with atmospheric CO2 and with the soil clay fraction. For this purpose, you will study different lime-soil systems from both a mechanical and chemical point of view, giving particular attention to the mineralogical composition of the soil. 

 

Education: Students in Civil Engineering/Materials Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Environmental Engineering or similar. 

Languages: Fluency English is a must. French is a plus 

Duration: 5-6 months. Preferably starting anytime between January - April 2026. 

5) R&D Engineer Intern (Construction) 

 

As an R&D Engineer Intern (Construction), you will be part of the materials lab team and contribute to understanding the influence of quicklime's chemical composition on the production of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). Through literature review and hands-on experimentation, you will investigate the role of specific minor elements in the material's evolution from a suspension to a consolidated state. 

 

Education: Students in Civil Engineering/Materials Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science. 

Languages: Fluency in English is a must. French is a plus. 

Duration: 5-6 months. Preferably starting anytime between March - May 2026.
