Job Description - Senior Data Scientist / MLOps Engineer

Senior Data Scientist / MLOps Engineer - Melle, Belgium

At RELYzIT, we don't recruit — we build.

We unite exceptional builders: engineers, architects, creators, across the BENELUX and the GCC.

Vetted through VECTOR7™'s multi-signal evaluation, you evaluate once and carry that credential forever.

This is more than work. This is where builders build the future.

Intro

Join RELYzIT Talent as a Senior Data Scientist / MLOps Engineer and help shape the future of digital substations for our client in Belgium. This is a freelance opportunity for elite builders ready to deliver high-impact, production-grade solutions in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment. Your expertise will directly influence the reliability and intelligence of critical infrastructure.

Why This Role Matters (Mission & Outcomes)

Our client is embarking on a pivotal research project to unlock the potential of structural data cleaning and anomaly detection within their digital substation data platform. As part of a select two-person team, you will architect and deliver an algorithmic solution that ensures data integrity, identifies root causes of anomalies, and sets a new standard for operational excellence. Your work will be instrumental in demonstrating the feasibility and stability of advanced data quality solutions, directly impacting the future of energy networks.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design, develop, and implement robust algorithms for data cleaning and anomaly detection on digital substation datasets.

  • Collaborate closely with a Power Systems & Software Engineering specialist to deliver a cohesive, production-ready Databricks Wheel for deployment on the client’s data platform.

  • Analyze time series data from electrical networks, identifying data quality issues and their root causes with precision and clarity.

  • Engineer scalable, maintainable Python solutions, ensuring compliance with European data regulations and best practices in software architecture.

  • Test, validate, and document your code in partnership with platform and data specialists, ensuring stability and seamless integration.

  • Drive the end-to-end lifecycle: from data ingestion and preprocessing to packaging, CI/CD, and deployment within Azure Databricks.

  • Deliver a stable, coherent algorithm that can be reliably executed on the client’s platform by the project’s conclusion (31/12/2026).

  • Engage in code reviews, test automation, and continuous improvement to uphold the highest standards of quality and reliability.

What We’re Looking For

  • Builder mindset: You take ownership, thrive on solving complex problems, and are driven by impact.

  • Proven experience in Data Science and MLOps, especially with time series data from electrical networks.

  • Strong background in Python software engineering, with a focus on data analysis, architecture, and deployment.

  • Hands-on expertise with Azure Databricks, including engineering, packaging, and deploying Python Wheels.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver solutions in secure, customer-managed cloud environments.

  • Collaborative spirit: You work seamlessly with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.

  • Immediate availability to join and contribute from day one.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Intermediate or higher experience with Azure Databricks engineering.

  • Intermediate or higher experience in data ingestion, data quality cleaning, and root-cause analysis of data quality issues.

  • Intermediate or higher experience in Data Science, MLOps, and time series analysis for electrical networks.

  • Senior-level expertise in Python software engineering (or equivalent languages) focused on data analysis.

  • Demonstrable experience in software architecture, code reviews, test automation, CI/CD, packaging, and deployment of Python applications.

  • Experience with processing and analyzing substation measurement data in secure, customer-managed cloud environments (including customer-managed laptops).

  • Reference project: Ability to provide documentation of a project deploying Python as a Wheel in Databricks, compliant with European data regulations (to be uploaded as a separate document, not a CV).

Language Proficiency

  • Fluent Dutch at European CEFR level C2 (required).

Other Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent through experience); degree document must be uploaded.

  • Higher education (Master’s or Bachelor’s) or equivalent professional experience.

  • Immediate availability is essential.

  • This is a freelance position with a defined project duration, ending 31/12/2026, based in Belgium.

  • Offer submission requires a team of two profiles: this role and a Senior Power Systems Engineer & Software Engineer. Only joint submissions will be considered.
