Workplace Technology Engineer (Endpoint & Virtualization)

You will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of end user computing platforms and VDI services, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable workplace technologies across the institution's environments.

What will you be doing in this role:

• Provide 2nd level support for end-user ICT assets, including workstations, VDI, thin clients, and virtual application delivery.
• Operate and maintain the infrastructure for virtual application delivery (MS Application Virtualization)
• Apply required security mechanisms and maintain the security posture of all deployed clients (fixed and mobile) by applying required GPOs and installing required security patches released by software vendors (OS and applications)
• Automate software delivery by packaging and distribution of software
• Monitor and advise on capacity and scalability requirements of assigned ICT assets
• Check regularly for third‐party software upgrades/updates availability, ensuring security and compatibility testing is performed
• Ensure access management to all networks based on need-to-know principles
• Analyze and resolve assigned incidents, problems and complex issues, acting as a Subject Matter Expert
• Analyze plans, design, requirement and associated risks, advises on technical solutions and mitigations
• Support the development of new architectures, provide engineering/implementation guidance, and contribute to long-term technical solutions.
• Operate, maintain, and secure ICT platforms by applying patches, updates, GPOs, and the institution's security guidelines.
• Conduct equipment testing to and from the supply line, documents serviceability status
• Manage staging, enrolment, and deployment of end-user devices using Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM).

What do you need to succeed in this position?

• A minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in a related discipline and 2 years post‐related experience.
• Exceptionally, the lack of a university degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate’s particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to the institution, that is, at least 6 years extensive and progressive expertise in duties related to the function of the post.
• Minimum 8 years of experience with operation and maintenance of modern, advanced heterogeneous and virtualised ICT technology
• Minimum 8 years of prior experience with current versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems in a large scale LAN‐based client‐server environment using Active Directory Services
• At least 5 years of practical experience with managing and operating a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI)
• Minimum 5 years of experience with security aspects, with an acquired know-how to implement security policies, and a good understanding and knowledge of systems usability
• At least 5 years of experience with mainstream hypervisors
• Very good awareness of security aspects and their technical implementation
• An ITIL Foundation certification is mandatory
• An active Security Clearance at NATO Secret level is mandatory at the time of application
• A strong command of the English language is required

Desirable:

• Experience with the support, implementation and management of Citrix CVAD / VMware virtualization solutions / Dell Wyse - HP Thin Device Management Solutions / Microsoft AppV / Microsoft Group Policy Management / Microsoft SCCM / Software Packaging & Deployment solutions
• Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements
