Design of a Compact Smart Antenna Prototype

Description of the Project 

Are you in for a hardware design challenge?  Then this internship is for you.  The goal is to design a compact no-frills smart antenna prototype, which is much in desire for drones and unmanned ground robotics.  This will combine an embedded GPS antenna with a high-precision navigation module, all wrapped in a cool 3D-printed housing.  You run through a complete prototype development process, starting from experiments and ultimately resulting in a nice and shiny functional prototype.   

Your responsibilities 

 You will be designing a PCB using state-of-the-art CAD design software, all the way from simulation, schematics capture and layout to output creation, guided by very experienced engineers.  You follow up prototype manufacturing and while the electronics are in the factory, you create a stylish housing with 3D modeling software and get it printed with Septentrio’s advanced 3D printer.  In the end, you will apply power to your beautiful creation, and it will hopefully tell you where you are with great accuracy. 

You 

Preferred: you are pursuing an electrical engineering degree and are eager to learn and create.   

Optional:  some background in RF electronics and electromagnetics could make it even more interesting.
