We are looking for a Senior Backend Java Developer to join the Connect & Machinery tribe, the team that connects farm machinery, sensors and OEM platforms to our ecosystem. You will work with the Tech Lead and the backend team on the services that ingest, normalise and serve machinery and telemetry data at scale.

The platform: eight Java microservices on Micronaut, an event backbone of around 70 Kafka topics carrying several million messages a day, and telemetry ingestion from thousands of connected machines and data-loggers. Today that data lands in a multi-terabyte Cassandra time-series layer, feeding a staged pipeline that turns raw machine positions into machine activity, and machine activity into field activity matched to the right parcel. Integrations run with OEM partners including CNH, John Deere and TAFE.

Your mission

• Machinery telemetry and data volumes: own the ingestion path from MQTT and OEM APIs into Kafka, then into time-series and analytical storage. This is where the scale of the role sits: partitioning, retention, downsampling, backfill and reprocessing of high-volume streams.
• Code review and system design: take an active part in reviews and in the design of the services around you. A large part of the work is evolving what already runs: scaling it as volumes grow and refactoring it when the design no longer holds.
• API and service development: design and maintain RESTful APIs in Java 21 with Micronaut, documented to the OpenAPI standard.
• Microservices architecture: design and implement microservices, and take part in the architectural decisions that shape them.
• External integrations: integrate OEM and third-party platforms over REST, webhooks and Kafka, with OAuth2 and JWT for authentication and authorisation.
• Domain libraries: maintain and evolve the internal libraries that hold domain business rules shared across services.
• Data stores: work with relational, document and time-series stores, keeping performance and consistency under load. The telemetry storage layer is still taking shape, so you will have a say in where it lands.
• Testing: cover your work at unit, integration and end-to-end level, and apply TDD as part of the delivery flow rather than after it.
• Cloud and delivery: containerise with Docker, run on AWS and Kubernetes, and contribute to GitLab CI pipelines.
• Cross-functional collaboration: work with the Tech Lead, Product Owner, QA and the other engineering teams to define and deliver.

Requirements

Must have

• 8+ years of professional backend development
• 6+ years with Java, with recent production work on Java 17 or higher
• 3+ years building production microservices with Micronaut or Spring Boot (Micronaut strongly preferred)
• 3+ years running event-driven services on Apache Kafka or an equivalent streaming platform in production
• Time-series and high-volume data pipelines: designing, tuning and operating pipelines that handle millions of events a day, including partitioning strategy, retention, downsampling, deduplication and backfill
• Production experience with PostgreSQL, including Liquibase migrations and JDBC
• Production experience with MongoDB or another document store
• Production experience with AWS, including S3, Secrets Manager and at least one compute service
• Docker and CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitLab CI
• REST, webhook and OAuth2/JWT integration with external providers
• Automated testing at unit, integration and end-to-end level
• Git and Git-flow
• Fluent English, written and spoken, at C1 or equivalent
• Based in Brazil and able to work remotely with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with CET

Strong plus

• Acting as a contact point: comfortable being a reference for the team, working alongside the Tech Lead and dealing directly with internal and external stakeholders, including OEM partners, translating technical constraints into terms non-technical people can act on
• TimescaleDB or another purpose-built time-series database
• IoT and telemetry data flows: MQTT, brokers such as HiveMQ, device-to-cloud ingestion
• Resilience patterns under load: circuit breaker, retry, idempotency, exactly-once or effectively-once processing
• Kubernetes in production

Engineering and backend team culture

Code quality first: architecture reviews, clear service boundaries and thorough code reviews are how we ship, not afterthoughts.
AI-augmented development: we use Claude Code with a purpose-built harness tuned to our codebase, including skills, wiki and architecture checks, to move faster without cutting corners.
Backend chapter: regular chapter meetings for cross-squad alignment, pattern sharing and knowledge exchange across tribes.

Compensation

CLT: 12.000 BRL - 15.000 BRL per month (commensurate with experience)
