As the Director of Conservation, you will lead high-impact programs focused on preserving the Atlantic Forest, guiding initiatives that integrate science, strategy, and community engagement. You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, develop long-term conservation strategies, and coordinate with public, private, and civil society partners to ensure measurable environmental impact. This role requires translating complex ecological and social challenges into actionable plans, mobilizing resources, and fostering partnerships that advance sustainable solutions. You will influence public policy, strengthen stakeholder collaboration, and champion the adoption of innovative conservation methodologies. The position offers the opportunity to work in diverse landscapes, including remote and protected areas, while promoting systemic change that balances ecological integrity with human well-being. Frequent national and international travel, along with engagement across multiple sectors, will be key to your success.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of large-scale conservation programs in the Atlantic Forest, integrating restoration, protection, water security, and fire management strategies
- Develop and apply systemic change approaches and Theories of Change to maximize long-term ecological and social impact
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including remote staff, ensuring performance management, development, and motivation aligned with organizational goals
- Foster and manage partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, local communities, academic institutions, and the private sector
- Serve as a key spokesperson, representing conservation initiatives and engaging with internal and external stakeholders
- Guide fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation and institutional negotiations to secure resources for impactful projects
- Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program outcomes, ensuring adaptive management and dissemination of best practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; postgraduate degree preferred
- 10+ years of professional experience in conservation, sustainable development, public policy, ESG, or related strategic fields
- Proven experience leading large-scale programs or strategic initiatives, including multidisciplinary team management
- Expertise in developing and implementing public policies, conservation strategies, and institutional relations
- Strong experience in fundraising and managing donor relationships
- Advanced knowledge of the political, social, and environmental context of Brazil, particularly the Atlantic Forest
- Strong analytical, operational, and project management skills, including budgeting and resource allocation
- Advanced English proficiency; Spanish is a plus
- Willingness to work in remote or challenging environments and travel nationally and internationally as required
