We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer to join our engineering team for a digital transformation project. You will play a key role in developing and implementing robust, scalable backend services for a modern portal. As a Backend Developer, you will be responsible for building services, APIs, and integrations that support seven critical insurance lines while ensuring high performance, security, and compliance with industry regulations.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and Express.js framework
Design and implement RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints for frontend and external integrations
Build services architecture following best practices for distributed systems
Develop secure authentication and authorization systems using OAuth 2.0 and JWT
Create integration APIs for Microsoft Entra ID SSO and external partner systems
Implement business logic for workflows, claims processing, and policy management
Write comprehensive unit tests and integration tests ensuring 90%+ code coverage
Follow security best practices including data encryption, PII masking, and audit logging
Collaborate with frontend developers to design efficient API contracts and data models
Participate in code reviews and maintain high code quality standards
Requirements:
Experience with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript
Experience with Express.js, Fastify, or similar Node.js frameworks
Proficient in RESTful API design and development with proper HTTP status codes and error handling
Experience with PostgreSQL including complex queries
Knowledge of authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML) and security best practices
Proficient with Git version control and collaborative development workflows
Experience with automated testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha, or similar)
Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems concepts
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Communication and teamwork skills
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with GraphQL and Apollo Server
Experience with serverless architecture (AWS Lambda, Serverless Framework)
Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack)
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
Understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration
Experience with legacy system integration and data migration
Knowledge of Agile methodologies and project management tools
Experience with multi-tenant application architecture
Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) for migration projects
