ROLE


The Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence (SA/DV) Program RN supports HPHA’s mission, vision and values, departmental goals and objectives, and corporate quality priorities. This role will provide clinical and program oversight supporting the implementation of a new model of care for HPHA.  The role will benefit from specialized expertise in trauma‑informed and forensic nursing care for individuals experiencing SA/DV.   Emergency Department experience and understanding of the support required for SA/DV clients presenting to an ED is an asset. 

The SA/DV Program RN will work closely with program leadership, clinical managers, corporate leads, and community partners to enhance patient outcomes, support evidence‑based practice, and strengthen interprofessional collaboration. Responsibilities include program development, policy/standard work/ medical directive development, education and competency development, and promotion of the new model within our ED and mental health teams and community partners.

The SA/DV Program Nurse Lead may be assigned additional responsibilities and projects in support of clinical excellence and organizational priorities.


REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)



  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance required


REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)



  • Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience in acute care, emergency, forensic nursing, women’s health, or mental health

  • Demonstrated experience with trauma‑informed care and crisis response

  • Experience developing and delivering adult education

  • Experience with policy development, program implementation, and quality improvement

  • Demonstrated proficiency in forensic evidence collection, documentation, and chain of custody

  • Knowledge and experience in providing care for SA/DV clients from an ED lens

  • Knowledge of trauma‑ and violence‑informed care principles

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict‑resolution, and crisis‑intervention skills

  • Ability to mentor, coach, and support complex clinical skill development

  • Knowledge of Accreditation Canada standards, legislated requirements, and regulatory guidelines

  • Effective time‑management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Project‑management abilities and experience using change‑management principles

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Proficiency with computer systems and electronic documentation


DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION



  • Forensic Nursing Certification preferred



  • Experience in forensic nursing preferred
