About the UFV Student Union Society
The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-PASS, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.
Advocacy and Campaigns Assistant
Work Schedule: 6-10 hours per week
Compensation: $ 18.22 + 4% in lieu of benefits
Reporting to: SUS President
The Advocacy and Campaigns Assistant supports the President by helping advance student-focused advocacy and campaign work. This role provides administrative assistance, research, coordination, and on-the-ground support for ongoing projects. The primary focus for the coming year will be advocacy related to transit and increasing awareness of SUS campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support for advocacy and campaign initiatives, with a primary focus on the FVX Route 66 campaign
- Assist with drafting, editing, and proofreading campaign-related materials, including emails, letters, blog posts, and outreach content
- Conduct background research on advocacy issues, policies, and stakeholders relevant to the campaign
- Contact municipal offices, government departments, community partners, and other external stakeholders as directed
- Schedule meetings, coordinate logistics, and maintain calendars related to advocacy and campaign activities
- Support relationship management by ensuring timely follow-ups and accurate record-keeping with stakeholders
- Assist with internal team coordination to ensure campaign tasks and timelines are progressing smoothly
- Track campaign progress and support simple project planning and organization tasks
- Maintain organized records, contact lists, and campaign documentation
- Attend meetings or events as needed to support the President and the advocacy campaign
- Support additional administrative or coordination needs connected to advocacy and campaign work
Qualifications and Assets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and ability to summarize information clearly
- Interest in advocacy, government relations, public policy, or community engagement
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Ability to communicate professionally and exercise sound judgment when engaging with stakeholders
- Prior experience in advocacy, campaigns, communications, or student leadership is an asset

- Travel to meeting locations as required. Locations may include, but are not limited to:
- The Student Union Building, 33844 King Rd, Abbotsford;
- UFV Chilliwack Campus at Canada Education Park, 45190 Caen Avenue, Chilliwack
- UFV Mission Campus, 33700 Prentis Ave, Mission,
- Availability to attend meetings or campaign activities outside of regular business hours may be required on occasion
