This is a bargaining unit position in the Professional Employees Association
Wage per hour $21.48 per hour

Summary


St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is Western Canada’s only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12). St. Margaret’s School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Program.


The Boarding Activity Leader supports the wellbeing of boarding students by creating a fun, nurturing, and engaging activity programme. Working closely with boarding staff, the role enhances educational and recreational experiences through after-school, evening, and weekend activities that encourage participation, and develop diverse interests and skills. The Boarding Activity Leader contributes to the overall school experience by accompanying students on activities, ensuring their safety, and providing appropriate resources.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Implement and deliver activity programs in collaboration with Manager, Student Engagement, Manager, Boarding Operations

  • Engage and excite students to try new things, and participate in activities in the boarding houses, school, and local community

  • Focus on student participation

  • Communicate with students to find appropriate activities to enhance the day and boarding experience

  • Participate in school meetings, activities, and events as required

  • Assess activities and ask for feedback to help improve programs that include all students

  • Provide extra staffing including weekend trips, as needed

  • Provide support to the overall program, and to the staff in the boarding houses as necessary



Education and Experience



  • Certificate in Education, Youth Care, Recreation, or a related field



  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Minimum of 3 years of recent, relevant experience working in youth care, education or recreational environment

  • Energetic self-starter able to take initiative under minimal supervision

  • Creativity and flexibility to cater to individual needs and interests

  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills, conflict management, and communication skills

  • Ability to organize and participate in physical activities with students

  • Demonstrated cultural proficiency and inclusivity.

  • Exceptional risk management skills, including preventative strategies for guiding youth

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, open-mindedness and personal initiative to ensure a high-quality program
