Job Description - Camp Glenburn Out-tripping Director

The Opportunity


As a part of the Resource Staff Team, the Out-tripping Director will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all out-tripping programs for Camp Glenburn participants. This role includes creating age-appropriate trip plans, managing equipment and supplies, and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all campers during their outdoor adventures. The Out-tripping Director will also work with the G.O.L.S. Director to offer enriching leadership experiences to campers and CITs, all while serving as a positive role model and fostering a safe, fun, and educational environment.



Responsibilities



  • Plan and lead weekly out-trips for 1 & 2-week summer sessions, including assigning age/ability appropriate trips, developing menu plans, and working with the Head Cook to ensure proper food orders.

  • Oversee the assistant G.O.L.S. Director in the planning and implementation of G.O.L.S. levels, ensuring that all lesson plans, attendance forms, and necessary supplies are ready for use.

  • Manage the care, safety, storage, and inventory of all camping equipment and supplies.

  • Develop and implement camp-wide emergency procedures, specifically for out-tripping activities and ensure safety protocols are in place at emergency access points.

  • Participate in the planning and delivery of staff training for all camp staff.

  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating appropriate behavior, health, dress, speech, and relationship building for staff, CITs, and campers.

  • Assist with other camp operations as directed by the Camp Director.

  • Submit a final report on program outcomes and suggestions for future improvements to the Camp Director.

  • Ensure that every child attending Camp Glenburn is treated with respect, understanding, and compassion.

  • Uphold YMCA Child Protection Practices in all areas of responsibility.



Skills and Qualifications



  • Ongoing or completed Bachelor's Degree, Community College diploma, or equivalent from an accredited institution.

  • Previous experience in a camp or youth program setting.

  • Wilderness First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Relevant camp certifications such as Canoe/Kayak, NLS, Waterfront, or Pleasure Craft Operator Card are considered assets.

  • Valid driver’s license and 3+ years of driving experience are preferred.

  • Flexibility regarding working hours and locations.

  • Strong organizational skills and excellent work ethic.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Flexibility regarding working hours and site locations.



  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.

  • A commitment to living on-site at Camp Glenburn from June to September.



  • Employment is contingent on clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Social Development Clearance Check.
