Job Description - Career Advisor

Position:  Career Advisor (Term contract to March 31, 2027)


Location:  Vernon Office


Department:  Case Management


Closing Date of Posting: January 25, 2026


Start Date:  ASAP


Days/Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm (37.5 hours/week)


Reports to: Manager, Case Managed Services

What you will do:  


Career Advisors (CAs) act as a helpful guide for job seekers in the WorkBC Program. You help build clients’ confidence and provide tips and tools that lead to rewarding employment. You bring empathy to the client relationship and pair this skill with being resourceful and knowledgeable to the many supports, programs, partners, and community resources that make up a well-rounded journey to meaningful employment. You empower people!


 


As a CA, you appreciate the importance of data collection and reporting that aligns with a client's journey. This role involves direct client services with people of all backgrounds and diversities, skills in financial evaluation, conflict resolution and negotiation, time management, and organization. Career Advisors maintain a high degree of confidentiality, plan and organize strategically, handle ambiguity, and resolve challenges. What we need from you:


 


Education and Certification



  • A post-secondary certificate, degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counselling, education or human resource management)



  • Previous WorkBC experience is an asset or minimum two years of experience working in career development or related sector

  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) is an asset


 


Skills and Abilities



  • Skilled in case management, coaching, and mentoring

  • Case planning experience with a high level of skills in file and documentation management

  • An active listener and critical thinker with problem solving skills

  • Customer service that includes experience working with diverse client populations (such as youth, Indigenous people, people with disabilities, multi-barriered, varied cultural backgrounds and rural residents)

  • Able to develop relationships (such as employers, community service organizations, training institutes and other key stakeholders, others)

Salary Range:    $26.50-$28.50/hour pending experience
