About Towhee

Camp Towhee/Towhee Summer Therapeutic Program supports youth with mental health challenges complicated by learning disabilities. Located in Haliburton, Ontario, Towhee creates lasting, positive change for campers and staff. Working at Towhee is a uniquely rewarding and transformative experience. We provide 10 days of comprehensive training covering behaviour management, counselling skills, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), mental health, and learning disabilities.

Who we need

We are seeking a Healthcare Supervisor to join our Camp Towhee team. Reporting to the Camp Director, this contract position runs from June 16 to August 21, 2025.

As the Camp Healthcare Supervisor, you will oversee all aspects of health and wellness at Camp Towhee. You will provide medical care, manage the Health Centre, administer medications, and ensure campers and staff receive the necessary physical and emotional support. You will also supervise the Healthcare Assistant, providing mentorship, training, and performance feedback.

We are looking for a leader with a strong background in healthcare, experience working with children and youth, and an understanding of how mental health and learning disabilities impact overall well-being. As our new Healthcare Supervisor, you are adaptable, compassionate, and can educate and support others in a dynamic camp environment.

As our new Camp Healthcare Supervisor, you will:

• Provide medical and emotional care to campers and staff as a primary first responder in medical emergencies.
• Assess and respond to physical and psychosomatic distress, implementing appropriate interventions.
• Educate campers and staff on health and wellness practices.
• Administer medications as required, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to protocols.
• Organize and manage the Health Centre in alignment with Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and Camp Towhee policies.
• Supervise and support the Healthcare Assistant, providing mentorship, training, and written performance appraisals.
• Serve as part of the Towhee Supervisor Team, contributing to decision-making, risk management, and camper well-being strategies.
• Provide direct support and supervision during meal times, evening programs, bedtime routines, and night supervision as needed.
• Participate in camp-wide programs, themed events, and special activities.
• Uphold and communicate Camp Towhee’s policies, practices, and safety procedures.

You bring

• Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in a healthcare-related field (nursing, paramedic, etc.), with three or more years preferred.
• Practical experience providing healthcare/first aid in roles such as lifeguarding, ski patrol, first responder, hospital placement, etc.
• Experience working with children and youth.
• Previous professional experience in a camp environment (strongly preferred).
• Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification (or greater).
• A current and valid police records check with vulnerable sector screening.
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work respectfully with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Working Conditions

• Fast-paced camp environment with frequent interaction with campers, staff, supervisors, families, and visitors.
• Responsible for managing the Camp Towhee Health Centre, including maintaining medical supplies and records.
• May require lifting children (up to 45 lbs.) and assisting in moving children (up to 200 lbs.) in a medical emergency, as well as bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs.
• Moderate to loud noise levels.
• Intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, running, lifting, and actively engaging with campers and staff in various camp activities and games.

Contract Period

• Start date: June 16, 2025
• Contract end date: August 21, 2025
• Compensation: $7,000 for the term of employment, including a base salary of $4,950 and a completion bonus of $2,050 at the end of the contract. Room and board are also provided.
