JOB SUMMARY


Under the direction of the reporting supervisor, the Inuit youth summer student will have an opportunity to learn about various work of ITK and learn alongside teams in either the Policy Advancement, Communications, Inuit Qaujisarvingat (research) and/or Finance and Administration Departments. This position will support ITK in various roles, whether that be in promoting awareness of Inuit culture, heritage and history, or working towards promoting and improving the place of Canada’s Inuit in a number of policy areas. In addition, the incumbent may help coordinate and facilitate program activities in cooperation with Inuit regions, ITK staff and federal/provincial/territorial stakeholders.


 


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES



  • Engage with members of public to share information about Inuit in Canada and Inuit culture/history

  • Coordinate with your team to support work specific to the departmental needs

  • Attend relevant working group, committee meetings

  • Provide relevant information to appropriate stakeholders, managers/directors when needed

  • Maintain policy, research and systems records as required.

  • Other duties as assigned


KEY CONTACTS



  • Direct supervisor

  • Represent ITK in meetings, conferences or on committees/working groups as assigned by manager

  • Must be able to work both independently and co-operatively within ITK, as required


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS


·         Knowledge of Inuit regions, history and political structure


·         Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook)


·         Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances


·         Friendly, Welcoming and personable


·         Good oral and written communication skills


·         Able to prioritize and manage your time
