Job Description - Junior School Associate Teacher

Temporary, Full-Time

Starting date: August 2026

Do you believe the early years are where confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning truly begin? At Mulgrave Independent School, we are seeking a passionate and dedicated Junior School Associate Teacher to join our dynamic Junior School team.

Mulgrave teachers inspire students to achieve their personal best through rich, engaging learning experiences that nurture well-being, curiosity, and academic growth. All of our students follow the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) beginning in PK3, and personalised, student-centred learning is at the heart of everything we do.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative environment, where low student–teacher ratios, outstanding resources, and a technology-rich campus create truly exceptional learning conditions. Through our co-teaching model, every K–2 classroom is staffed with both a Lead Teacher and an Associate Teacher, allowing for meaningful differentiation and personalised instruction.

What You’ll Do

You will work closely with Lead Teachers and Learner Support Coordinators to enhance student learning and well-being through:

  • Actively differentiating and personalizing instruction

  • Providing academic, social, and emotional support for students

  • Contributing to assessment and evaluation of student progress

  • Helping students become self-regulated, confident learners

  • Creating and maintaining an organized, welcoming classroom environment

  • Supporting PYP implementation and ongoing development

  • Participating in collaborative planning, staff meetings, and professional learning

  • Assisting with Before and After-School Care (ASC) supervision

  • Supporting Specialist teachers, school events, assemblies, and student-led conferences

  • Getting involved in the co-curricular programme for at least two terms

  • Occasionally TOC-ing in other classrooms, including PK

  • Developing and reviewing a Teacher Professional Growth Plan (TPGP) with your coach

Who You Are

Candidates must:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Meet all BC teaching certification requirements

  • Hold a valid, age-appropriate First Aid Certificate

Successful candidates will:

  • Have a strong desire to work with children

  • Be eager to grow their career in education

  • Actively engage with current educational research and best practice

  • Use technology to enhance learning

  • Demonstrate flexibility, collaboration, and initiative

  • Be open to feedback and committed to continuous growth

  • Model the values of Mulgrave’s mission, vision, and culture

Work Hours

  • 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, with occasional extensions on:

    • Club days (to 4:30 pm)

    • After-School Care days (to 5:00 pm)

  • Availability for new student assessments on one or two Saturdays per year is required
