Position Summary

The Learning Design Consultant (LDC) is a curriculum and innovation strategist responsible for developing end-to-end learning programs and courses that align with Bow Valley College’s strategic priorities. Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Centre for Academic Innovation, the LDC leads curriculum development projects from initial labour market and job task analysis through to full implementation in the learning management system.

LDCs are experts in contemporary teaching and learning practices, including Competency-Based education (CBE), performance-based assessment, adult learning principles, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). They play a central role in institutional transformation by coaching others in instructional design and mentoring those involved in the development, review, or implementation of high-quality, workforce-relevant learning.

Working collaboratively with program areas and business units that support the implementation of programming, as well as cross-functional partners (Media Specialists, Online Delivery Officers, Indigenous Learning Consultants, and operational staff), LDCs ensure curriculum is inclusive, relevant, and responsive to evolving educational models and labour market needs. They use AI-enabled tools and structured prompt engineering to support the creation of competency frameworks, assessments, and modular learning pathways.

While the primary role of all LDCs is curriculum development, some may also be assigned additional responsibilities related to professional learning—supporting instructors or program teams in applying effective teaching strategies, integrating digital tools, and aligning instructional practices with institutional models such as CBE.

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the design of Competency-Based programs and courses aligned to Bow Valley College’s institutional model.

  • Conducting labour market research and job task analysis to inform program structure and learning outcomes.

  • Designing and developing competency frameworks, modular learning content, and authentic performance assessments aligned to industry needs.

  • Using AI tools and prompt engineering to accelerate content development, improve quality, and streamline processes

  • Coaching and mentoring others in instructional design, including outcome writing, assessment development, and learning pathway design.

  • Facilitating co-design sessions and collaborative working meetings with subject matter experts and program teams.

  • Managing project timelines, curriculum file systems, and deliverables across concurrent developments.

  • Collaborating with media specialists, online delivery officers, Indigenous learning advisors, and operational stakeholders to ensure accessibility and cultural relevance.

  • Supporting the implementation of CBE programs, including onboarding materials, instructional readiness, and quality assurance activities.

  • Contributing to professional learning sessions or instructional development initiatives, where assigned.

  • Demonstrating professional dispositions that reflect optimism, adaptability, accountability, and respect — including strong interpersonal communication, a service mindset, and the judgment to lead or support based on team and project needs.

Required qualifications:

  • Between 4-6 years of experience in instructional design and/or the development of Competency-Based education programs

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, or a related field

  • Demonstrated - ability to lead curriculum projects and produce high-quality, strategic deliverables aligned to institutional priorities

  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.

  • If your education was received internationally we will require you provide an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire

This opening is a project Faculty position. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check.

Closing Date: July 09, 2025
