Perth County is recruiting for the position of Policy Planner to join the Policy Planning Team. This position will play a crucial role in supporting the Senior Policy Planner with undertaking Comprehensive Zoning By-law reviews across Perth County’s four lower-tier municipalities.  This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to shaping the County’s development while fostering sustainable growth and community well-being through research, consultation and preparing background reports.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Senior Policy Planner in conducting thorough and detailed reviews of the Zoning By-laws.
  • Research, analyze and interpret provincial policies, municipal by-laws and planning legislation to ensure alignment with community needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with municipal stakeholders, staff, and external consultants to gather input and feedback related to the Zoning By-law reviews.
  • Prepare reports, presentations and other communication materials to inform and engage stakeholders and their Councils.
  • Support public engagement initiatives, including organizing meetings, workshops, and consultations, to promote transparency and community involvement in the planning process.
  • Monitor zoning and land use trends, identify emerging challenges and propose innovative solutions.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Land Use Planning, Geography or related field.
  • Registered Professional Planner with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and full Canadian Institute of Planning membership or candidate member is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a planning role.
  • Proficient understanding of the Planning Act, Provincial Planning Statement, Official Plans, Zoning By-laws and related legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work efficiently within a team environment and independently.
  • Critical thinking and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, collaboration, policy writing, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in multiple computer software applications including Microsoft Office Suite and GIS viewing software.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and the ability to travel as required.
 
Shift:Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week) with night meetings as required.
 
Salary Range:$87,378.20 - $102,211.20 (based on Perth County’s 2025 salary grid).
