Job Description

This nursing position is part of a secure, well-established Crisis Mental Health service model. The program is grounded in a strong partnership between the Emergency Department and Mental Health Services, providing integrated, rapid, and compassionate care to individuals experiencing acute mental health and addictions crises. Registered Nurses in this role work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary framework that ensures seamless communication, timely interventions, and consistent high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred;
  • Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire;
  • Minimum of 3 years recent experience mental health required
  • Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric emergency experience required
  • Mental health community experience preferred
  • Advanced skill in the assessment and management of acute mental health and concurrent disorders conditions, including mental status examination, suicide risk assessment, management of aggressive behaviour, bio-psychosocial assessment, physical health assessment, treatment and transitional care;
  • Additional experience in addictions and/or medical/surgical or emergency nursing would be considered an asset;
  • CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or Post-Diploma Mental Health Nursing preferred, or completion within 2 years of start date required;
  • Current certification in non-violent crisis intervention
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable health care legislations

Additional skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform charge nurse duties preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize care and make informed autonomous decisions;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex and difficult patient and family situations;
  • Physical ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of aggressive behaviour;
  • Proficient in the use of computers, with the ability to type notes and utilize the electronic health record;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organization, time management, professionalism, and ability to work as part of team;
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record required;
  • Passion for change, quality improvement, and professional development

The ideal candidate is strong in patient centred care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to foster teamwork and cooperation.

Additional Information

Hours:   Monday to Sunday, Various 12 hour shifts, (hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $40.24 to $57.68 per hour
