Job Description

Union: ONA

Site: Toronto General Hospital

Department: Liver Clinic & Ambulatory Care

Reports to: Nurse Manager

Work Model: On-Site

Wage Range: $39.07 - $56.00 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements)

Hours: 22.5 Hours per Week

Status: Temporary Part-Time (End Date ~October 5, 2026)

Closing Date: August 28, 2025

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide clinical support across multiple ambulatory areas, with a primary assignment in the Liver Clinic and secondary coverage in the Medical Day Unit (MDU) and other Surgical Ambulatory Clinics. This float role is essential to maintaining continuity of care and operational efficiency across outpatient services.

The RN will deliver safe, evidence-based care to patients with complex medical needs, including those with liver disease, undergoing procedures, or receiving infusion therapies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care and patient education in liver disease management, procedural recovery, and ambulatory treatments
  • Educate patients and families on lifestyle modifications, dietary guidelines, medication adherence, and potential complications
  • Facilitate access to community resources and support services
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and care plans
  • Perform and support diagnostic procedures including Fibroscan
  • Collaborate with Hepatologists and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care pathways
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to data collection and analysis
  • Float between Liver Clinic, MDU, and other surgical ambulatory areas based on operational needs
  • Perform clinical procedures including:
  •   - Venipuncture and IV insertion

      - Albumin transfusions

      - Paracentesis and thoracentesis

      - Wound care and post-procedure recovery

      - Liaising with clinicians regarding patient status and care coordination

 

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Completion of a university, college, or other approved nursing program
  • Current Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in ambulatory, medical-surgical, or procedural care settings
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification
  • Experience with phlebotomy, IV insertion, insertion of and access to vascular access lines, and administration of blood products
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
  • Strong clinical assessment, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent independent decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • PACU/OR experience preferred
  • Completion of the ECG interpretation course is an asset
  • Experience in Hepatology, Gastroenterology, or Surgical Clinics is considered an asset
  • Flexibility to float across multiple units and adapt to changing priorities
