Palliative Care at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital offers nurses a unique opportunity to combine advanced clinical expertise with deeply meaningful human connection. As a Registered Nurse on this unit, you will focus on optimizing comfort, function, and social support for patients and their families when a cure is no longer possible. Care plans are built collaboratively around each patient’s values, balancing symptom management with opportunities for connection and comfort. The sustained therapeutic relationships our nurses develop with patients provide valuable insights to understanding each patient’s priorities. Working in this area is profoundly rewarding, allowing you to directly shape how patients experience comfort, connection, and dignity in their final days.
Is this you?
You are an empathetic and compassionate nurse committed to preserving the dignity of patients in their final stages of life. Families often look for reassurance, clarity, and grounded communication as situations evolve. You excel at addressing the emotional and psychosocial needs of patients and families, providing crucial support during sensitive times. Independent, yet a team player, you thrive in a collaborative environment where achieving collective goals is as important as offering personalized care.
A palliative care setting offers meaningful opportunities to apply comprehensive assessment skills in support of patients with evolving needs. Within this environment, noticing and interpreting non-verbal cues becomes an important way to understand discomfort, uncertainty, or changes that patients may find difficult to articulate. Curiosity naturally drives continued learning, helping you remain current with techniques and practices that enhance patient experience. A growing familiarity with new approaches enables creative thinking that helps tailor care to the unique circumstances of each patient.
This role is unique in its focus on offering emotional support and guidance to patients and families during times of loss and grief. You will play a vital role in respecting and supporting patient wishes through alternative forms of treatment, including Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) and palliative sedation. Your expertise will be instrumental in providing high-quality, patient-centered care, making a significant impact on the lives of those you serve.
