Rehabilitation in stroke and neurological care provides a uniquely rewarding environment where patients’ progress toward their goals is highly visible, allowing you to see firsthand how your interventions directly influence functional recovery and daily life. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you’ll support a diverse patient population recovering from stroke or other neurological conditions, applying your expertise to guide daily care and promote functional gains. Each bit of progress your patient makes, whether big or small, is a victory you helped create. By being such an integral part of your patient’s journey, you feel rewarded when experiencing the impact you and your team have. You will work alongside physicians, therapists, and fellow nurses in a leading stroke rehabilitation centre where everyone works towards a common goal.
Is this you?
Are you a compassionate individual who celebrates patients reaching their goals? In the stroke and neurological rehabilitation program, patients may be recovering from one or more conditions at different paces which means thoughtful care is paramount. You continue to show compassion to each patient’s situation and promote independence with activities of daily living and functional recovery.
You are curious and take advantage of learning opportunities when they arise. Neurological diagnoses can be complex, allowing you to approach challenges beyond what you think your limits are. Your nursing knowledge is broad and will continue to expand as you experience patients with varying ages, conditions, and rehabilitation plans.
The well-being of a patient is reliant on effective communication that goes beyond written and verbal. If you have demonstrated strong communication skills, through your practical nursing program or clinical placements, this role will allow you to leverage that strength. Active listening and non-verbal communication allows for a trusting relationship to develop where patients feel comfortable to disclose information necessary for an accurate treatment plan.
