ABOUT THE ROLE 


Our Service Designer plays a pivotal role in shaping the end-to-end journey of our client's services, from initial concept through to delivery, ensuring they are user-centred, efficient, and aligned with client objectives. This role will leverage expertise in user research, data analysis, and journey mapping to identify opportunities for improvement and create compelling user experiences. The successful candidate will leverage a blend of skills in design thinking, project management, user researchand an understanding of public sector processes. 


 


Role Type: Independent Contractor 


Hours per week: Part-time initially, with the potential to increase to Full-time 


Contract Duration: 16 months, with a target start date of March 16, 2026. 


Location: Victoria, British Columbia. Local hybrid work with option to work from office and requirement to visit client sites occasionally as needed. 


 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 



  • Apply human-centred design principles and best practices across the service design lifecycle to ensure services and products are usable, accessible, and grounded in user needs. 



  • Collaborating and managing the end-to-end journey of a service or product, from initial concept through to delivery for the client. 



  • Full cycle strategy including user research, gap analysis and journey mapping. 



  • Analyze and synthesize data to identify themes and opportunities, telling compelling user experience stories and providing actionable insights. 



  • Developing visual communications and infographics including presentation materials, service blueprints, user journey maps, and other user experience design artifacts. 



  • Look for commonalities in activities across services where solutions could be made. 



  • Planning and facilitation of workshops and presentations. 



  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients, offering leadership, expertise, and recommendations to drive improvements and change. 



  • Contributing to the development of information architecture, UX/UI design and user flows. 



  • Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards. 



  • Use design research, particularly qualitative research, to drive key insights and inform strategies. 



  • Develop meaningful profiles, personas and scenarios. 


 


QUALIFICATIONS 



  • 5+ years of experience in Service Design and/or as a Product Owner/Manager, in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. 



  • A strong portfolio that clearly demonstrates strengths in both UX and visual design skills. 



  • Experience working on an Agile development team. 



  • Strong relationship-building skills, working effectively in cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders through collaboration and communication. 



  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, capable of conveying information persuasively to clients at all levels and influencing others to achieve objectives. 



  • Proficient in storytelling, both visually (e.g., Miro, PowerPoint, etc.) and verbally, to create persuasive narratives. 



  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and mentor others. 



  • Experience creating, developing, and executing facilitation and planning workshops. 



  • Experience developing visual communications and infographics that are human-centred. 



  • An aptitude for learning and applying new digital technologies and tools.

COMPENSATION 



  • Contract hourly rate range: $95 - $110
