Position Overview
The Senior Training Specialist is responsible for delivering instruction and training, interactive demonstrations, and e\-learning to staff at twentyâtwo (22) CACCs, 9,000+ Paramedics, and other required Ministry stakeholders including ORNGE across the province. Training will follow established program content and methodologies on the Public Safety Radio System (PSRN) for land and air ambulance services. The role also supports provincial project testing and contributes to the development and quality assurance of all training materials.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery
- Deliver instruction and training, interactive demonstration and/or e\-learning to staff at twentyâtwo (22) CACCs, 9000+ Paramedics and other required Ministry Stakeholders including ORNGE, across the province within established training program content and methodology on the Public Safety Radio System (PSRN) for land and air ambulance services.
- Provide application and product training to both technical and nonâtechnical users.
- Provides supervision, handsâon instruction and training, and interactive demonstration.
- Evaluates and documents individual participant/student performance; provides feedback and recommends further training if necessary.
- Administers and grades variable written and/or practical examinations and certifications.
Training Materials & Documentation
- Document and deliver training documentation and overall PSRN Training Strategies, including but not limited to training plans for each CACC, taking into consideration the unique aspects and needs of each centre.
- Assist in the development, design and ensuring quality of all training material related to the project.
- Provide recommendations for training tools as required.
- Create final training materials by integrating EHPMDB future state processes with vendor training material.
- Provide input, document requirements and support the design and delivery of training programs.
Project Coordination & Reporting
- Support project testing provincially as required (e.g., network coverage testing and/or consoleâtoâsite testing).
- Work closely with the Training Lead to ensure project activities and timelines are met and effectively communicated to appropriate audiences.
- Report progress against the Training Plan to the Training Lead.
- Provide progress reports to PSRN Project Training Lead and management; identify and recommend the need for additional/remedial training.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work alongside Ministry of Health representatives to ensure EHPMDB processes are incorporated into the training materials while ensuring quality of all training communication material related to the project.
- Provides group leadership, supervision and technical and nonâtechnical direction to students, CACC/ACS Paramedic Service and ORNG resource staff by scheduling work assignments, clarifying and interpreting established practices, and providing technical advice while ensuring that programming timelines are met.
- Acts as a provinceâwide resource regarding the development and delivery of PSRN training and testing programs.
- Participates on committees and other task groups as part of the PSRN technology training and testing.
Experience Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as Trainer.
- Experience creating and managing training project plan/schedules.
- Experience delivering training material to both technical and nonâtechnical users.
- Experience with Public Safety equipment systems such as the Public Safety Radio Network.
Skills and Qualifications
Training Experience (40%)
- Experience developing and delivering a province/nationâwide training strategy and rollout plan for an operational and First Responder environment.
- 5+ years of experience as Trainer, preferably in OPS or Land Ambulance Dispatch Centers or Paramedic Services.
- Experience delivering training material to both technical and nonâtechnical users.
- Experience creating training material or user documentation, preferably in OPS or Healthcare sector.
- Experience creating and managing training project plan/schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage a complex provinceâwide schedule.
- Experience working on the PSRN project.
Technical Experience (35%)
- Demonstrated experience with Public Safety equipment systems such as Public Safety Radio Network.
- Demonstrated experience with telecom and dispatch systems.
Analytical and Communication Skills / General Skills (20%)
- Experience in the development, design and delivery of training material for both technical and nonâtechnical users.
- Knowledge and experience in delivering training on specified packages and platforms.
- Knowledge of Radio/Telephone systems, GIS, spatial concepts (geographic orientation and mapping), Automated Vehicle Locator.
- Strong problemâsolving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to clearly articulate messages to audiences from entryâlevel to senior executives.
- Team player with a track record of meeting deadlines.
- Minimum valid driverâs license class G (or equivalent) and ability to travel frequently and for extended periods within Ontario.
- Demonstrated experience working with a large project team.
Industry Experience (5%)
- Experience delivering training related to 24x7 critical environments and operations.
- Experience with the land ambulance sector and its stakeholders (asset).
- Knowledge of Public Safety including Police, Ambulance, and Fire.
- Knowledge of Emergency Health Services or Healthcare Sector (asset).
Travel Requirements
Additional travel to Guelph/Hamilton/Sudbury/Vaughan as well as other locations within the province.
The resource will be required to travel to multiple training sites across the province to provide support and coordinate radio training and testing in order to implement the PSRN.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive.
