Youth Sports and Recreation Facilitator (2025-426-YPS)

• Operates from a critical, trauma-informed lens, including Anti-Black Racism (ABR), Anti-Oppressive practice (AOP), and a demonstrated understanding of colonialism and its intergenerational effects on black, racialized and Indigenous communities.
• Interacts and engages with 2SLGBTQIA+ content and communities and helps to support safe and brave spaces for youth from all diverse backgrounds with a stress on equity.
• The facilitator role will support the convening of games, (which includes logistics in terms of getting equipment and materials to and from game sites, equipment matching for clients who may not have the appropriate gear, as well as set up and tear down before and after training and game play).
• The facilitator role will work closely with youth leaders, volunteers, coaches and management in the creation and facilitation of high-quality sports programming with a focus on developmental relationships and positive youth development.
• Responsible for supporting communications with players, parents, families and community members (program promotion, fielding important questions, providing instructions about the program, how to register and how to get to the field/court).
• Responsible for supporting the tracking of attendance as well as registrations, no shows and a variety of program requests.
• Responsible for assisting the coach during game play, which may include sub-coaching, refereeing, supporting volunteers and youth leads, among other activities.
• Responsible for supporting, encouraging and modeling a healthy youth culture that focuses on strong social, emotional and physical wellbeing.
• Responsible for supporting with data interpretation and the drafting of reports.
• Responsible for assisting in the development of new partnerships that expand programming, improve outcomes and extend reach.
• Wherever possible and appropriate, share information and supports about other programs and services at WoodGreen that are relevant to the specific needs of the client.
• Where appropriate and upon request, the facilitator may support the youth wellness centre drop in from 3-7 on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
• Participates in staff meetings and consultations as needed and/or required.
• Attends committee meetings to collaborate with agency partners as needed.

• A diploma in health or sports sciences, or a related discipline (preferred); or National Coaching Certification (preferred) CPR-First Aid Training (preferred)
• Previous experience playing, coaching and/or directly supporting in an athletic club, team or league as it relates to basketball and/or soccer

• • • Personal knowledge and experience playing basketball and/or soccer.
    • Experience leading or coaching teams in basketball and/or soccer.
    • Experience supporting the development and design of sports programming, with an emphasis on basketball or soccer.
    • Knowledge and experience in community development, with an emphasis on sports and recreation.
    • Knowledge and experience supporting healthy, supportive and developmentally appropriate youth cultures as it relates to sports and recreation.
    • Knowledge and experience supporting and encouraging tolerance and acceptance across diverse communities from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist perspective.
    • Transferable knowledge in the building of strong, collaborative teams that work together cohesively
    • Ability to take the lead and work independently.
    • Experience using different online platforms such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
    • Ability to use effective interpersonal skills to establish/maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, the public and other agencies..
