Job Description - Accounting Clerk

 

South Shore Regional Centre for Education

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices the culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres and a total of 23 schools.

Accounting Clerk

Location:

Bridgewater Main Office

Reports to:

Accounts Payable Supervisor

Contract:

Permanent, 7 hrs/day, effective immediately

Wages:

$20.41/hr (subject to increase following wage parity exercise)

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 and a community college accounting program.
  • Knowledge of the accounting system SAP, specifically related to Accounts Payable and Procurement
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of accounting and all aspects of accounting procedures
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Excel and Word.

Task Dimensions:

  • Performs accounts payable functions relative to the operation of the Regional Centre under the direction of and directly responsible to the Accounts Payable Supervisor. For example:
  • Entering all invoices, both PO and non PO related.
  • Matching and posting invoices for all school PO related invoices, under $1000.
  • Posting all school Reimbursement Forms and Disbursement Vouchers
  • Extracting and uploading Bell Mobility and Bell Aliant invoices monthly
  • Updating account coding for Bell Mobility and Bell Aliant in their account portals
  • Extracting and uploading Irving Oil Credit Statements bi-monthly
  • Assisting with the payment proposal, ensuring all invoices and expense claims entered have correct amounts and invoice numbers on them.
  • Completing account coding corrections as required.
  • Assisting in answering queries from all vendors regarding problems with invoices or payment of them.
  • Assisting in preparing, processing, and/or follow up of supporting documentation for invoices/credits, as assigned
  • Assisting in the reconciliation of statements and contacting vendors, via email, for any outstanding invoices
  • Matching all Irving Oil credit card slips to the credit card statement
  • Maintaining an up to date Accounts Payable Clerk procedures binder
  • Providing backfill assistance for other staff as required
  • Filing as required
  • Serving as back up receptionist on a daily basis for breaks and lunch.
  • Assisting the Accounts Payable Supervisor, as required.

 

  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

 

 

BACKGROUND/SECURITY CHECKS:

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education requires all newly hiredemployees to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check. We will accept checks completed within the last 3 months. 

 

Regional Office based positions require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license.  Some school based positions also require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver's license.
