Job Description - Geologist in Training or Geologist

Reporting to the Senior Geologist Supervisor, the Geologist-in-Training or Geologist is responsible for daily operational geology field support, coal seam recovery, interpretation updates, data management, assisting with resource modelling, inventory and blend tracking, and exploration support. 

 

To be successful, we are looking for an analytical and detail-orientated person with strong interpersonal skills, who can build and maintain positive relationships in a mine production team setting. This person would be a driven self starter who can collaborate with personnel within all aspects of the operation, and ensure timely, accurate information is available to all groups. Lastly, this person is organized and can prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures 
  • Use modelling software to develop meaningful daily guidance to engineering and operational production teams, interpret and update geological block models; participate in model reconciliations
  • Support structural and stratigraphic geological interpretation through geological high wall mapping and related geological interpretation using all exploration and production drilling data
  • Complete detailed review and interpretation of geological information
  • Support daily and weekly blending requirements 
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the annual in-pit reverse circulation exploration drilling program, including the development of Environment, Health, Safety and Community (EHSC) plans, contractor management, budgeting and cost tracking, data validation, and the implementation of QA/QC programs
  • Find opportunities for process improvements using technology

 


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology
  • Eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Minimum twelve months' experience as a Co-op or an Intern in a heavy industrial or mining environment
  • Strong digital proficiency and experience in database and geological modeling software; experience with statistical analysis tools is an asset
  • Experience in exploration drilling and permitting is an asset

Salary Range: $101,000 - $125,000

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
