Job Description - Intermediate Accountant

Position: Intermediate Accountant Location: Burlington/Oakville area Job Type: Permanent We are looking to hire an Intermediate Accountant for a great client in the Real Estate Investment Industry located in the Burlington/Oakville area. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Intermediate Accountant will assist with the accounting, reporting, and day-to-day operations of our client’s income producing properties under management. The position is based in an office setting; however, travel may be necessary along with occasional weekend or evening work. The successful candidate must have solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills. Candidates should possess solid knowledge of full cycle accounting, financial reporting with exposure to IFRS and have experience with Yardi. Responsibilities
  • Process daily deposits and update the tenant ledgers
  • Prepare and analyze AR Aging reports
  • Calculate and distribute interest on last month deposits
  • Review and generate monthly rent rolls and other charges
  • Review, set up and monitor pre-authorized rent payments
  • Process deposit accounting
  • Reconcile daily bank activity and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare HST remittance for each property
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Assist in the preparation of annual audit working papers and liaise with external auditors
  • Interpret business results to put them into the appropriate context for others to act upon
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets for Properties by preparing supporting schedules, variance analysis and coordinating with other departments and Property Operations
  • Calculate properties’ ratios and KPIs
  • Prepare and review monthly property packages and forecasts for accuracy, consistency, and completeness – includes preparing detail variance analyses of balance sheet and revenue accounts
  • Prepare month-end journal entries for receivables and revenue such as revenue accruals, management fee calculations, etc.
  • Exercise the highest level of discretion regarding release of confidential information
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures are applied
  • Perform a d hoc responsibilities as assigned by Accounting Manager
Requirements
  • A University Degree or College Diploma in an accounting-related field of study is required (preference will be given to candidates enrolled in the Intermediate levels of a recognized accounting program (CPA) or have a designation)
  • At least 3+ years related experience in a real estate or property management environment preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of Yardi or other ERP software
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products specifically Excel and Word
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Genuinely curious with a desire to understand key metrics and drivers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely
  • Strong collaboration and customer service skills – approachable and supportive of internal and external customers
  • Goal and results-oriented – can be counted on to meet and exceed goals, and steadfastly move self and others towards results
  • Excellent organization, prioritizing and problem-solving skills
  • Analytical and forward-thinking – tackle problems by using a logical systematic and sequential approach, anticipating problems, and developing contingency plans
